Can anyone give me advice on what dimmers to purchase.

I will need them to be 4- 6 channel,

DMX

work off a 13amp load as I will be in small entertainment venues without 16amp/ 32amp supplies.

I would also prefer 19" as I already have normal dimmers that aren't 19"

Thanks

Most of this sort of stuff has been covered before, but I'll throw some suggestions up.

Any dimmers could be run off a 13a socket.. Its not the dimmer that determines what power supply you run it off (OK yes it does sometimes i.e. wired for 3 phase means you can't run it off a single phase supply easily) The 1st dimmers that comes to mind are beta packs.. fit all your criteria. Will set you back about £450/£500. Theirs plenty of other 6 way racks floating around by manufacturers. Think some may be listed on the BR wiki.

There are some cheaper 4 channel units going around these days, all (to the best of my knowledge) outputting on IEC's

* Showtec multidims.. been done to death on here.. Not rack mountable but great for local dimming.

* Ryger DPMS40's. Oldish units but a great investment if you can get hold of any..

* Lite-puter 4 channel dimmers from Terralec - http://www.terralec.co.uk/prod.asp?I=16243...UTER_DMX_DIMMER There rack mountable via a 19inch plate that holds two dimmers in each. Terralec also sells them, but can't find them on their website.

Apart from that thats about it in terms of 4 dimmers. May be some I've forgotten, but their the only 3 I can think of.

or Zero88 alphapacks - 3 channel, stand mountable, 15A outputs available.

Such as SmartBars for example.

The 4 by 6A happily run from a single 13A plug (as long as the loads aren't too big).

Also available as a SmartModule - a single block that can be rigged anywhere. I prefer the SmartBars though!

They look like very nice units. And no doubt they're much better quality than the budget offerings. But the budget offerings are about 10% of the price...

I guess you pays your money and takes your choice.... each of these, and all the others in between, has a place in the market.

look at the showtec D pack at 230 euros, I have 20 of these in operation with a zero failure rate over the last 12 months and when I eventually do get a triac fail they are the simplest rack to access. You can wire them single phase but in the future can rewire to 3 phase and get the extra capacity.Power in Perth frequently exceeds 250v, so they don't get an easy life.

I haven't any experience with them, but I know from various catalogues and suppliers that Pulsar do several dimmer packs which are suitable for running off a 13A supply.

The standard for them seems to be IEC sockets, but you can order them direct from Pulsar with 15A sockets.
