Video to VGA converter

Can't believe this hasn't been discussed anywhere before, but search didn't find anything yet...

Feel free to point me at any threads I missed!

I need a converter to turn a composite video signal (BNC or phono) into a VGA signal I can put into a c0mputer TFT screen. CPC and Maplin have several, but all around the £60 mark - was hoping for something a little more on the budget side...

Any alternate suggestions?

Trust me (I'm a doctor... well not really) £60 really is on the budget side, a folsom scaler, scan converter can come in at a fair bit more than that. although I do remember a thread not so long ago where someone was looking for something similar and a a device produced for the Xb0x was recommended, although I cant seem to find it now...

Cheers Dave.

And thanks also Chris - that CPC item does look a possible.

To clarify the usage, it's needed for the band monitors for the panto - the band of 3 or 4 musi's sit atop a purpose built platform above the SM (we have limited wing space and no viable pit!!) and we send them a feed from the stage view camera so the MD and drummer can keep up! We have several CRT monitors, but these take up more space, so I'm looking at the option of using a couple of 17" TFT's we have unused at the mo. It's not worth spending lots of dosh on a couple of £60 converters, but at around £32 each might be conceivable...

To make it slightly more affordable, since you're sending the same signal to each monitor, you only actually need 1 converter, and a VGA splitter or DA. You can get budget VGA DAs for about 20 quid. Or you can even get "passive" ones (ie a Y-cable :D ) for about a tenner.

It doesn't make a huge difference to the cost, but at the end of the job you may end up with a more useful selection of bits and pieces.

Nice thought...

I can probably get by with one converter for the show this time, but may be looking at a second for future use elsewhere - not necessarily located at the same place as the first screen. but either way, we have 3 or 4 VGA DA's in house plus at least 2 Y-splitters anyway, so if using 2 screens in one place that's no problem.

Ta for the thought anyway.
