henny Posted December 27, 2006 Posted December 27, 2006 im looing for a outdoor projector enclosure for and install. any one any sugestions , it would be for a small desktop sized unit, aprox 3500 lum cheers ian
TonyMitchell Posted December 28, 2006 Posted December 28, 2006 Is the projector going to be left outside is situe (within the enclosure) or set up each time before use? If the latter, a small Condome would probably suffice If the former, you need to be looking at the operating termperature of the unit and possibly keeping the enclosure heated. HTH Tony
jimbo7744 Posted December 28, 2006 Posted December 28, 2006 I have just goggle'd for this and these guys might be able to help. They are in the States thou and I dont know what ur budget is. http://www.tempestlighting.com/ Or these guys http://www.displaydevices.com/products/enc.../epe/index.html but again they are in the states. Is the installation permanent or temporary I.e for an exhibition or something? If so, what time of year? Can you rear project to increase contrast and brightness? I have seen a large shed turned into a rear projection cabinet, with one wall having a perspex RP screen surface attached and the projector mounted inside at the 3 Sisters pub in Edinburgh. This worked really well and the projector was protected from the elements. Any more info would help find a solution
MarkPAman Posted December 28, 2006 Posted December 28, 2006 Though many may be a bit too narrow, have you looked at CCTV camera enclosures? They can be fitted with heaters, wipers etc. Many types of mounting kit are also available.
jimbo7744 Posted December 28, 2006 Posted December 28, 2006 if you go to http://www.theedinburghblog.co.uk/bars-pub...2006/index.htmlthe picture with the guy standing there shows you the image from the 3 sisters pub. Very bright and in daylight. These chain pubs dont spend alot on equipment so I would imagine it was a projector with about the same output as you are suggesting. Also what size screen are you projecting onto?
henny Posted December 29, 2006 Author Posted December 29, 2006 I would need a heated enclosure synce the unit will be permantley installed outdoors. the aplacation is as a projected "bill Bord" type thing on the outside of a venue, prob 8'-10' screen front project, at this moment ive been aske the queston is this possible. as for brightness it would be on dusk till midnight every night. cheers
jimbo7744 Posted December 30, 2006 Posted December 30, 2006 Hi Ian, The answer is yes, it is possible. The question is do you have the budget? The projector isn't a massive issue. BenQ make a great range of projectors that are both cost effective and suitable for your application. http://www.benq.com/products/Projector/?product=808 The PB8263 is a DLP projector, has a 4000 lumen output, 2000:1 contrast ratio, is happy operating in temperatures down to 0'C and can be picked up for as little as 1500.00. The problem is the housing. To both keep the elements out and to cool the projector in the summer is going to be expensive. The last thing you want is the projector kicking out lots of heat on a cold day and causing condensation and then moisture inside the housing and in the summer it constantly overheating and shutting down. As I posted above there are companies around that specialise in IP rated, temperature controlled housings that will have suitable extracts to remove hot air and replace with cooler air. Unless you have a fairly high budget (5k+), I would look to see if there is a window in the building you can project through and keep the projector in-doors?
MarkPAman Posted December 30, 2006 Posted December 30, 2006 I would look to see if there is a window in the building you can project through and keep the projector in-doors? And mount a mirror if you want the image on the building.
ShaunT Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 We used this firm www.lcdtvenclosure.com/outdoor-projector-enclosure.html that has a UK office for an outdoor projector project at Clitheroe Castle - we used the castle as the screen and displayed a sequence of images for the Queens Jubilee in 2012. I can't recall the details for the UK office though.
