Clock Audio microphones

I am thinking of buying some Clock Audio CMH2000 headworn microphones for a forthcoming production (musical theatre with a youth group). They are a discreet headworn boom mic for use with our existing Shure radio mic transmitters.

My alternative would be an Audio Technica AT-892 series model (these choices are based around good deals that I can get on the products)

Has anyone got any experience with these? I have trialled the Clock Audio model, and it worked pretty well in the trial environment.

I would be grateful for any comments on these products. Countryman and DPA microphones are just not on the price radar for this!

Thanks in advance,

Hi Jason

First off, cant say I'm all that familiar with the particular Clockaudio mic your refering to- but I work for a dealer and have a little knowledge of the commercial and install kit.

I think they're broadly similar to AKG, some neat and innovative designs, which work well, but for the most part their creative minds seem to look at the install conference lectern/ boundary mic primarily. With some success, I would say- theyre an easy sale, they fill gaps in the market that your Shures, AT's and Beyers don't cover, and failure rate seems to be pretty low. I happen to know as fact though, that the wireless transmission systems are all Far Eastern copies of copies of copies type stuff, probably effective enough but nothing spectacular.

The moral of the story being, I suppose, that check out what exactly it is your looking at- if its an extension of the wireless range, it probably falls into the latter category, and although from experience of looking at import products I'd say its not strictly relevant to compare like for like, the exact same identical piece of kit might well be available branded JTS or some other place for less money.

Hi.

Take a look at this thread, which deals with some budget headset mics, amongst others, from the likes of CPC.

May give you a much cheaper option.

Jason,

The Clock Audio CMH2000 is almost certainly one of these: JTS CM204. JTS make mics etc. for a number of other manufacturers and distributors.

I have some experience with the product and I've not found them to be especially robust. Unless your youth group are fairly careful you may need spares. One of mine got snapped (school production). Stuck-on lavs may be the way to go, and there are plenty of threads about this.

AT892 are in a different league in terms of price. Can't comment on whether the performance goes up as well.

Thanks all for the replies.

I think Clock make all their own products, but I will check with them (allowing for the manufacturer truth filtering component!)

They are also similar in price to the AKG model.

The thread on alternative cheaper headworn mic systems was also very interesting.

I was rather hoping for comment from someone who had used the product in anger, but hey, you can't have everything in this life.
