Rowan Posted December 23, 2006 Posted December 23, 2006 I've had a quick search of the board, but can't find anything on this. If it does exist then please can someone add the link. I'm looking for a simple remote go button for a 500 series console. does anyone know of such a thing. I think it would be fairly easy to make one, my idea is to connect a switch across one of the remote submaster inputs on the back of the desk, and then programme a macro onto that sub that makes the desk 'GO' when the sub is activated. Is this the correct way to go about it, or is there a simpler method that people know of? I'd quite like to keep the cost down so probably steering clear of the MIDI route.
Jon T Posted December 23, 2006 Posted December 23, 2006 You can use their riggers remote as a remote go .. info available from www.strandlight.com... or if budget doesnt stretch you could run a long external keyboard cable to a keyboard and use the letter 'G' on it !
b1nuzz Posted December 23, 2006 Posted December 23, 2006 Strand Designers remote will do it.About £150
gareth Posted December 23, 2006 Posted December 23, 2006 Now that everyone has totally ignored your comment about keeping the cost down and chipped in with suggestions for riggers remotes, and USB dongles and laptop combinations, I'll mention that your idea of using the remote inputs and creating a macro to "GO X1" is definitely the cheapest way to do it and should work just fine.
JMC Posted December 23, 2006 Posted December 23, 2006 And I can confirm it does.. Used that method before. Providing you have ComPro available, this will work fine.
Rowan Posted December 23, 2006 Author Posted December 23, 2006 Cheers Gareth and JMC Thought it should work, as I don't have a desk in front of me at home I can't really check! The problem with the previous suggestion of a keyboard lead is that in the hasty moments of the show when I've got lots of sound and lx cues together, I don't want to have to be aiming for one key amidst thirty!! Also, after we've established the fact that I cannot justify the expense of another riggers remote. I find that if I remove them from the side of the stage and put them in the control box, resident electricians get rather irate about it when they come to do a rig check from the stage!

Dj Dunc Posted December 24, 2006 Posted December 24, 2006 or .even better, get a usb-->ps2 converter, so that there was a usb keyboard, but instead use one of those laptop keypads with a lot less buttons, then the enter button is usually at the bottom right. this would work? dunc
Rowan Posted December 25, 2006 Author Posted December 25, 2006 still think a button and a bit of wire will be cheaper and easier also, I don't fancy having to re-map the keys on all of the desks so that enter is the go button
gareth Posted December 25, 2006 Posted December 25, 2006 still think a button and a bit of wire will be cheaper and easierYou're absolutely right. I have no idea why most of the other contributors to this thread seem so hell-bent on making your life unnecessarily difficult and expensive.
Tomo Posted December 27, 2006 Posted December 27, 2006 A similar thing can be done with most ETC desks - connect a few push-to-make buttons across the Remote Macro input pins, program a few macros to do the 'something', et voila! Could probably do enough for a low-tech riggers I suppose..
Renny Posted December 27, 2006 Posted December 27, 2006 Strand Designers remote will do it.About £150 £150? You don't buy much stuff off strand do you?
b1nuzz Posted December 27, 2006 Posted December 27, 2006 well I think I paid about £80 for it in the end cos it got damaged in the post, but no, correct, it was the first ever thing I bought. Apart from a 520i.

Apart from a 520i. I guess it's against the rules of the forum, but where did you buy it from? if they're going for £150 I might buy one!!! I might even have a chat with the postman if it'll get me an extra discount
