soundiesam Posted December 16, 2006 Posted December 16, 2006 Hey all I'm looking to buy a Portable Media Player to Widdle away those long tour bus journeys up and down the county! Does anybody have any suggestions of which one someone has got to have a nice one out there!Sam
Frag_Me Posted December 16, 2006 Posted December 16, 2006 I heartily recommend Archos products, if you can stretch your wallet to them. I've got one of the old AV340s and it seems just like a modern day cutting edge product even though it is a generation or 3 behind. They can be a little more expensive and they are difficult to properly get videos onto (mine is anyway, with encoding and whatnot) but once you know what you are doing they are very rewarding.
soundiesam Posted December 17, 2006 Author Posted December 17, 2006 hey I looked at Archos they are a bit pricey but I still want one! Gotta love asking parents for Christmas presents. I looked at the 404 but the only issue is the battery isn't replaceable so its not gonna last that long! so I'm looking at the next model up the 504 Sam
Ben Lawrance Posted December 17, 2006 Posted December 17, 2006 What about something like the Sony PSP. I've not got one myself, but as I understand it, you can play games, listen to music, watch films, work on documents etc with it. Sounds quite a gadget. 2p in the pot.
soundiesam Posted December 17, 2006 Author Posted December 17, 2006 the only issure with the PSP is there is no internal harddrive so you would need a memeory stick to save any music or videossam
robloxley Posted December 18, 2006 Posted December 18, 2006 Would be curios how the Archos with DVB tuner works on the move?
Bryson Posted December 18, 2006 Posted December 18, 2006 There's a reason that the iPod has the market share it does...
gareth Posted December 18, 2006 Posted December 18, 2006 ... and that reason is that it's the dog's nads. I have one (Photo 60Gb) and it's absolutely fab. Knocks seven bells out of the Creative one that it replaced, and having played with Sony and Archos ones that friends and colleagues own, it knocks seven bells out of those, too.
Bryson Posted December 18, 2006 Posted December 18, 2006 Indeed. I know getting the same one as everyone else isn't so cool, but they really are that good. Also, the software is easy and good. That is not the case with almost all of the others. Sony, I'm lookin' at you.
soundiesam Posted December 18, 2006 Author Posted December 18, 2006 I looked at the ipod the only issue I didnt like was that you couldnt record off of tv and stuff like that! I Love Ipods and my dad wouldnt buy me one for christmas either because he hates ipodssam
Tomo Posted December 18, 2006 Posted December 18, 2006 The only problem I have with the IPod is that it doesn't do OGG files. Which means that I'm stuck with poor mp3 compression - but as I'm only listening to it on a train/airport/aircraft with loads of background noise, it's not a major issue.
soundiesam Posted December 18, 2006 Author Posted December 18, 2006 I don't know what to buy! I did want an ipod but its whether you wanna go with the crowd or not! I would like something I can copy dvd's onto and music sam
the kid Posted December 18, 2006 Posted December 18, 2006 It does depend what you want it for, but I know some one who has just got a tablet pc. Bit heavy but if you get media center on it, should be sorted for a bit.

Or really good ALAC. :( I know, I'm a massive fanboy. I'll go now.
