Stegga Posted December 16, 2006 Posted December 16, 2006 I am looking to hire some space cannons or syncrolites in summer '07 and was wondering if any one knows where I could hire them from? I have scoured the net and not found nething that look useful! hope you can help. thanks , Sam
tokm Posted December 16, 2006 Posted December 16, 2006 Don't bother with space cannons, their not too nice. Get Syncro' heads if you can get them.. Have you tried emailing Syncrolite? I think Bandit might be a UK supplier. Syncrolite mite also be like the old way with VL's.. If you wanted them, you hire them from VL/VLPS.. sometimes with a VL op. What sort of event are you doing. Syncrolites are serious bits of kit, sorry if this sounds condescending, but if your doing anything less than a large theatre show or an arena, I'd say their probably bit OTT.. Know its nice to have big toys but yeah.. If you are doing an arena show great, but I'm surprised the show your working on hasn't already spoken to its production company who'll have the right contacts for anything.. I'd say Go for a Mac 2k or Robe 1200 profile, they'll do a great job for you and offer way more functions. Also, IIRC, they all need 32a 3phase. You got that kind of power? HTH & sorry again if I'm sounding rude, just being a realist tonight.. Tom

(tm Ynot)Looking at the OP's profile, this is another student enquiry.Erm, Sam - I'd personally agree wholeheartedly with TokM. Have a serious think about what you want these lights for - what do you need them to do? Do you really have a budget on a school production for something like this? Do you actually have ROOM for something the size of a Space cannon or Synchro??Is this really a serious question, or is it for a project? Tony
niclights Posted December 16, 2006 Posted December 16, 2006 I read this and think summer balls & 'search lights' outside to make it a bit of an event. Is that what you are looking for? If so you will probably find a local events hire company who can supply. That's where I would start.
tokm Posted December 16, 2006 Posted December 16, 2006 Outside lighting eh.. What about Sky Trackers Loads of places hire them. Try google for an idea of what they look like. Tom
Ike Posted December 16, 2006 Posted December 16, 2006 I think PRG Europe have some syncrolites in stock. They are huge, heavy and very expensive mind...
Calder Posted December 16, 2006 Posted December 16, 2006 If it is a summer ball, then you will get a way with a spaceflower. There are lots of companies hiring these, and they should cost you far less than a space cannon. C.
JohnPartridge Posted December 16, 2006 Posted December 16, 2006 OK as Sam isn't around to answer questions, I will fill in the answers. Sam is currently on the production team for a large outdoor concert event in the Summer of 07. This concert will be of a large scale and has the possibility of a large British band playing (cannot disclose). I asked Sam to do some research into Space Cannons and Syncrolites etc. The effect we wish to create is firstly , have 2 "cannon" effects SL/SR behind the PA towers, that on cue , I can Create the beam effects in the night sky. Another effect we had the idea of, would be 2 more "cannons" SL/SR on the front of the stage, again so that I am able to create beam effects in the air , but comming from the stage. I appreciate that Space Cannons and Syncrolites are large units, but we do have adequate space available. However , if there are any other units which are smaller in size but will produce the effect I require, please suggest them. Many Thanks, And hope I have cleared up some unclear areas. John Partridge
musht Posted December 16, 2006 Posted December 16, 2006 Anyone still have WWII searchlights in hire stock? Theatre Projects (as was now eventually PRG?) , years ago had quite a few some still burning carbons some with xenon conversion. 60" reflector especially burning carbons makes Space Cannon look like a maglite. Looks like they may have ended up with Fineline: http://www.fineline.uk.com/searchlights/

Just curious, really! I did wonder, when first reading the OP, about school-kids and big toys etc.....! Nice to see it's not quite what we first thought!Lends weight to the fact that it's best to put ALL the cards on the table in a first post so we all know where things stand.
P. Funk Posted December 16, 2006 Posted December 16, 2006 People assume incompetance far too quickly on these forums! Laser Hire in the midlands hire out things like that for fairly cheap. Not got any contact details for the company, but if you cant find them give me a PM and I'm sure I could find out!
johnhuson Posted December 16, 2006 Posted December 16, 2006 If your looking for Space Cannons then Essential Lighting have them in their hire stock. A few things I'll say on this, firstly 7K searchlights don't come cheap! Also nearly everyone who hires out units like this will only hire them to you with a technician (read extra cost!) as using 7K Xenon sources is not for the in-experienced!
Jon T Posted December 16, 2006 Posted December 16, 2006 Guys, come on give the lad a break! Look... the OP was only asking where to hire the fixtures from... and once again its turning into one of these posts where some of the more experienced members of the board are just turing it into a ' your only a kid so your not allowed to use these etc etc..' type post again, making the OP explain to the world why he wants to use them yes they are what he wants and yes he knows how to use them etc etc.. Yes... it may say hes at school etc but if thats what hes asked for thats what he wants. Hes entitled to the simple information he so asked for which was where to hire the fixtures from.. sorry about the rant but it seems allot of posts by younger members of the board recently have been having to explain why they want them and that they know how to use them and that they are justified for their production before we get back onto the question of the OP. J
Stegga Posted December 16, 2006 Author Posted December 16, 2006 yes it true I am at collage, but that doesn't mean I don't know what I am doing. the event is not the summer ball or school show but a large scale concert I am involved with.there will be a professional lighting technician present so that is not a problem, money isn't a huge obstacle eitherit would be nice if people here were a little more accommodating and didn't jump to conclusionsthanks for your help people
