burgesg Posted December 22, 2006 Posted December 22, 2006 Slightly off topic, but do wireless headsets not cause interference?
J Pearce Posted December 23, 2006 Posted December 23, 2006 My tea break...My main hate of wireless coms is that they follow you. You can't leave them on the stage, they follow you down to the kettle and comfy chairs.
GridGirl Posted December 23, 2006 Posted December 23, 2006 Slightly off topic, but do wireless headsets not cause interference? They can do - I had the receiver/transmitter sets for two sets of wireless cans sitting above the radio mic receiver rack on a show and had to move them when the sound operator complained that they were causing trouble with his mics. They worked better from the flyfloor anyway!
dunk_1984 Posted January 2, 2007 Posted January 2, 2007 1 option is as has already been mentioned just use Radios... and headsets, this is my personal choice as they have various uses and arent restricted to venue, and have a multitude of uses. Another if they are fixed locations, or small ones, with internet access, small pc/laptop, bluetooth or other form of wireless headset, and have 1 big conference call, never tried this in a theatre scenario but as with lots of things the theory side of it makes it very simple....
dwh Posted January 2, 2007 Posted January 2, 2007 I've run the "dump a Wi-Fi router somewhere and use laptops via Teamspeak/Ventrillo/similar" thing before, and it's ok as a short term thing, but you have to be prepared for some things... There's more of a delay than normal on the system, they spill light, and they generally take more effort than a proper system (i.e. if you want to send a visual symbol to one person, rather than just pressing a button for them, you have to select their name with the mouse, right click, and find something in a menu). Also, if your network decides to crash for some reason (as mine did. Opening night. An hour before the show), it's just slightly annoying.
tonymaslen Posted January 4, 2007 Posted January 4, 2007 Have to thought about talking nicely to your local hire supplier and hiring the wireless comms system from them. Have a chat with them and see what they can suggest.
