Short Courses Technical Theatre

Doubt it.. I suspect this would be because they'd be labelled as, 'not worth the paper their written on'.

i.e. 'short' being a few weeks/months at most, you'd not get a chance to really put the skills learnt into practise, as if this was in a college situation, large productions where you could show skills you've picked up, for assessment, don't come around often enough for this to happen.

Only 'short' courses around that are useful for theatre are the C&G Electrical ones. All of which have been covered on here before.

HTH.

tokm is wrong and ill-informed, I'm afraid. The ABTT run their bronze, silver and gold awards for theatre technicians which are accredited by the Royal Scottish Academy of Music & Drama, as well as numerous other short courses.

Opps. Completely forgot about the ABTT ones!

Sorry O/P / Gareth. I Mistook;

Short Courses available for technical theatre
As the types of short courses that FE colleges do..

Sorry again.

If you are 16 - 21 years old or in full-time education the National Youth Theatre has a summer course in technical theatre. I am applying for it this year.

The actual course is two weeks but after that you get the chance to work on there performances during the rest of the summer. You are also considered a member of their organisation. Thus having more opportunities to gain experience in the industry.

What sort of "short courses" do you want to do? Anything in technical theatre? That's quite a wide range and could cover anything from 'how to tie a knot in a bit of sash' to 'how to make a period costume'?

A few more clues as to your preferred direction might help........ or have you found what you wanted?
