Harvey_51 Posted December 12, 2006 Posted December 12, 2006 Hi I have hired a alcora lighting desk it has 4 analogue sockets on the back I am going to plug two beta packs into the analogue sockets one old beta pack and one new beta pack will the desk still use memory functions even thought I am using a analogue dimmer pack ALSO do I have to press a button for it to reconise that I want to use the analogue sockets instead of DMX or should it automatically do it FINALLY if I wanted to use on beta pack on the DMX connection and the other one on a analogue would that work Thanks Jordan Harvey
greenalien Posted December 12, 2006 Posted December 12, 2006 A quick visit to the Zero 88 section of the Blue Room Wiki gives THIS link to the Alcora manual... :D
Ben Langfeld Posted December 12, 2006 Posted December 12, 2006 I believe the Alcora outputs DMX and analogue simultaneously, so yes, it would be automatic and yes, you can use both (but make sure your patch is correct). Also, I do believe you can use all the functions of the desk such as memories etc with the analogue outputs - I see no reason why not. But my god that was a difficult post to read. I can't believe I'm saying this, but some regard for punctuation would make everyone perspire a lot less.
sparkyweb Posted December 12, 2006 Posted December 12, 2006 Jordan, Both the DMX and analogue outputs will work at the same time. And yes, all functions of the desk will work with either output. (and yes you could have one dimmer on analogue and one on DMX) The Analogue kit in the Alcora is an upgrade that plugs into the inside of the desk, I believe all the electronics are controlled by a D-A convertor on the analogue card, so all outputs are mirrored. Mark PS You could have sent me an email on this as its one of my Alcoras!!
dave singleton Posted December 13, 2006 Posted December 13, 2006 Which means I got it ready! Cue the song "its a small world after all..." :D
pete LD Posted December 13, 2006 Posted December 13, 2006 PS You could have sent me an email on this as its one of my Alcoras!! makes you wander why a custermer feels they would get a better faster responce from an internet forum than contacting the hirer! ironic that its still the hirer answering the question!
DSA Posted December 13, 2006 Posted December 13, 2006 One thing to watch out with the Alcora memory stack, is that I think it is impossible to insert cues without reprogramming the rest of the show. Very annoying if things change after the plot... David P.S. If someone knows a way to get round this, do tell!
peter Posted December 13, 2006 Posted December 13, 2006 The only way around that is to copy/paste each memory into the next adjacent memory. Of course, you could always buy a Jester instead :(
DSA Posted December 13, 2006 Posted December 13, 2006 Unless you are happy to do a swap, somehow I don't think that is going to happen... I couldn't quite believe it the first time I realised - it seemed like quite a nasty omission on what is otherwise a very useful desk. David

I dont quite understand what your getting at with this comment. Given the fact he posted at 8:21pm he's much more likely to get a reply on here than by contacting the hire company who would have been closed for the next 12 hours at least. He could have phoned the emergency contact number but I dont really see it as much of an emergency. :(
