School and business blocking BR access

Ok sorry for the lack of reply's.

Only just got myself back onto the desk and wonderfully it turns out school banned this forum.

And not any game sites or myspace.

Have to wonder about their priorities.

Anyway onto business. Tried everything suggested, re-patch, 220 clean going to the archive and all that.

Nothing works. I'm starting to wonder if it isn't the desk itself. Ill get that file to those who asked for it.

This is probably the same reason my business (non-theatre) laptop can't access the BR - it's classed as a forum, which is close to a chatroom, and as such the school probably want to guard against pupils using unauthorised sites.

My suggestion, if you believe that the BR can be avaluable asset to school facilities, is to request that the site is opened up, possibly just to yourself and maybe a couple of teachers (who could maybe be cited as 'monitors' of the forum on your behalf....

I was surprised to find the BR wasn't blocked on my school's network (seems as though the servers up at County Hall in Mold have blocked nearly every other internet forum). I think though, certain areas of this forum are inaccessible - the crew room and other off topic areas. But the main bulk of the forum is available to view, always find this very handy as if I have a problem with the drama theatre lighting having a look on the BR Wiki comes in handy.

Most filtering systems these days are reasonably intelligent. Specially school ones. They don't just go oh, its a forum, ban it! They look at the content and decide.

 

In B.Morris's case, it sounds like the local school internet bods have made that assumption, though as Ynot said, you might be able to get it unblocked as clearly, non of us are advertising the sale of p0rn or other illegal things! But equally they might not, because they could be jobs-worths who take the view that all students think their stupid and don't know anything.

 

At AmateurTechie's school, it sounds like their a little more sensible.

 

Back on topic, as Ynot said, it might be worth getting a strand 'expert' from here or somewhere to have a look, I'm thinking corrupted version of genius pro??

CRBs would be irrelevant here unfortunately.

One of the quirks / features of the system is that a CRB is only valid for one 'employer'.

 

As soon as you work/volunteer somewhere else, they have to do a new CRB.

 

However, I believe (and please correct me if I'm wrong), that you don't have to be checked if you are not going to be responsible for the youngsters or left unaccompanied with them.

The theory being that an evildoer wouldn't try anything unless they were alone with the kiddies.

Thought CRB checking just covered working anywhere that you could encounter kids, not just if you were only going to be working with them or 'responsible' for them.

I'm not actually sure on that - I will, however, ask the question of my CPS contacts.

This I can confirm. It's the responsibility for youngsters that's the issue, not thebeing in presence of. It never hurts, though, to be CRB'd in our situ.

Well you say that my old school (admittedly nearly 4 years ago now) blocked its own website because it contained the words hot and Essex on the same page and the filter assumed it meant something entirely different and that the es for some reason wasn't taken into consideration. (and yes my school was in Essex)

Should you need to access BR in a hurry from school or work network just use www.grab.cc or the like, which work rather well.

I got TBR and ABTT removed from the block list, saying that I used It for course advice/research, if you just ask IT are generally nice.
