scottbramall
Hi allI'm looking to buy two LED tubes for my mobile disco. Ive found some for about £60 each. (I'm guessing Ive got to buy a controller on top) I was just wondering. With more expensive tubes do they do anything more? How are they programed? I will most likely use DMX for them. How many channels? Other things I should consider? Thanks a lotScott Bramall
niclights
Erm? Do you realise how ridiculous that question is? Perhaps a make/model or even a link would help? :(

Neil Frazer
Looking at the website you will need this Controller and this power supply to run the tubes. The controller will run of DMX and it looks like it will need 7 channels, pattern, speed, interval, flash rate, red, green and blue. you can also run preset patterns from the controller. mumbles
The controller will run of DMX and it looks like it will need 7 channels, pattern, speed, interval, flash rate, red, green and blue. you can also run preset patterns from the controller.I think, from here that the DMX channels go like: ch 1, Patternsch 2, Speed / Redch 3, Interval / Greench 4, Flash / Blue When ch 1 is at 0, mode 2 (RGB) is active, so the other 3 channels act as RGB, and then when ch 1 is set to above 0, mode 1 (patterns) is active, and as such the other three channels come into play as speed/interval/flash. Don Allen
In general there are 3 versions of LED tubes, Flow tubes which needs their own proprietary controller to address each tube and their power supply. You tell it how many tubes you have connected when you set up, .basically self contained and may me some interchangeabilityy between clones. DMX tubes, which needs their own proprietary controller to address each tube, and their power supply. You tell it how many tubes you have connected when you set up. With these types you can run them from lighting desks for programmable chases etc and some programs such as Lightfactory allow basic graphics. Video Tubes, which needs their own proprietary controller to address each tube, and their power supply. Able to do high resolution video. The inside of the tubes are similar with a micro-controller accepting the input signal during setup and storing it's address in the chain of LED tubes, then when it gets it's address, it outputs the control signals to the led's in the tube to light up as instructed by the controller. Do a search within Blue Room for more info and links to video's or search on the web for the three types.

musht
Hi allI'm looking to buy two LED tubes for my mobile disco. Ive found some for about £60 each. Other things I should consider? LED tubes are great in quantity, but not very bright on their own. For £60 a unit LED Par cans will give you lot more dazzle for your dosh. Jamtastic3
Remember that they are only a metre long, thats 100 cm ( :) ) Doesn't seem much so you'd need 4 at least for any real effect.
