Single Channel Dimmers

I need to buy some single channel dimmers to use with some Red heads. They therefore need to be able to cope with 800 watts, I also want manual control so people can set them up and use them easily on set, however I'd like DMX too, so we're future-proofed or if we want to use them in a more programmed/control control scenario.

So far all I've managed to find with UK connectors seem to be manual (and usually +10v) or DMX but not both, however Thomann seem to have quite a few, but they're all Schuko sockets. So I was wondering if anyone's ever tried changing them to ceeforms or anything else, as I'd prefer not to have adaptors all over the place.

I know I could just use a demux with the analogue ones, but I'd prefer to avoid the complication and hassle of using analogue.

Alternatively does anyone make something similar to the Alphapack but cheaper (as ever we're on a tight budget), with three channels, local control and DMX.

Thanks,

PN

Take a look at the Anytronics Pro-Dim range, think that should meet your requirements and are reasonably priced. Standard versions list at about £160 with DMX option and the location versions about £180, but most suppliers will give you some level of discount on them. If you need any more help feel free to PM me.

Might be worth you having a look at the 'Location Pro-Dim' from Anytronics ( www.anytronics.com). These are rugged single channel units, that have local and DMX control, and 16A ceeform in and out, to match up with your Redhead. Film & TV boys like Lee and AFM use them, and they last very well.

Hope this helps,

Richard

By some 38 minutes it would appear, do I get a prize ;) . It's HUSON by the way.......sorry for the pedant but I get so fustrated that people can't spell it right (happens a lot). RS still can't get it right after some 7 years of ordering with them, mind you neither can my doctor!

Anyway back on topic.....

John, I do apologise. It's one of those occasions when your brain expects to see one thing when actually it is spelt as something else. However if I was being pedantic your post is clocked at 1.21pm, with my reply at 1.39pm, making a gap of 18 minutes ! (even less if you took your edit at 1.26pm). I think the phones were busy that lunchtime and so it took a little while to actually compose and post my reply.

Still you answered first. Well done.

Richard

No problem Richard, I originally put 18 minutes but them for some reason looked at it again last night and some how decided it was 38!

Are Alphas really too expensive? I seem to recall when I bought some recently, I was pleasantly surprised by the price.
I do agree they represent good value for money, however we're on a very tight budget, and when I can get a six channel dimmer for under £150 including my choice of output it seems quite expensive , although obviously the qualities are very different! TBH we decided that the single channel dimmers would be more compact and more practical and we wouldn't need cabling back to a central point.

Again thanks for the suggestion, but probably a bit out of our price range. :P

That looks perfect Chris, I'd not thought of checking CPC, and most of the Thomann ones are, as mentioned, continental sockets, so unless any one's swapped the Schukos for Ceeforms with minimal hassle I'll go for the IECs and adapt.

Thanks
