M-Audio Transit to Yamaha 01V96 via Toslink

We have an M-Audio Transit external USB soundcard connected to a laptop. I am trying to connect the Transit to a Yamaha 01V96 digital mixing desk via the Toslink connector on the back of the desk. The problem is that whatever I try I cannot get the sound to output through the desk. If I connect to the desk via the 3.5 analogue jack on the Transit to a couple of analogue channels on the desk the sound outputs fine so as far as I can tell the issue isn't with the laptop or Transit soundcard. I am a complete novice when it comes to operating the mixing desk, but from what I can tell the 8 available ADAT channels are patched to channels 17 to 24 on the desk, the channels are enabled and the faders are set to full.

Can anyone provide any advice on things to try to get this working?

Thanks

The optical interface on the Yamaha is ADAT (8 channels) only.

The Tranist is SPIDIF only (2 channels).

The two cannot be connected together.

If you want 2 channel audio from the laptop to the Yamaha then you need an optical to coax SPIDIF converter, have a look here: http://www.minidisc.org/part_CoaxOptical_Conversion.html

If you want 8 channel audio from the laptop then you need something like: http://www.maudio.co.uk/products/en_gb/Fir...e1814-main.html

I can vouch for the 1814 M-audio sound card... does exactly what it says it can do... and at around £350 its blooming good. The preamps are a little noisy, but that's to expected with what really is a low price. Could put a nice mackie boutique preamps (oh, I forgot some of you hate them... I love em, then again who am I to speak :( I'm only 17!). I'm going off topic... ill go back to listening to music on my 1814!
