munster
I am after a budget preamp for an ipod going into a small PA in a nightclub. Any ideas? Budget £50-
broadcast_techie
generally it's just mics that need preamps, an ipod's headphone out will be far to high. you will probs be better off looking at something like this http://www.behringer.com/502/502_medium.jpg about £40, will give you control of volume.... kris
rob.d
I am after a budget preamp for an ipod going into a small PA in a nightclub. Any ideas? Budget £50-100 Ive run my Phillips Ipod equivalent from headphone out into a stereo in on a mixer via a 3.5mm to dual 6.35 TS (mono) jack cable on countless occasions. No problemo. If the club has a PA, they'll probably have some way of getting a signal in, be it from a mixer or whatever. If you can cope with just volume control, you might find it possible to run straight into the amp or crossover unit. I've done this going into an EQ box on the same 6.35mm mono jacks. I'm not sure if this is a particurlarly good idea though- the little headphone amp and the inputs on line level PA kit will probably result in an impedance mismatch scenario (but I am ready and willing to stand corrected) and so should really be avoided. To be on the safe side, I reckon the wee box broadcast technician proposes will do a sterling job. HTH rob

soundo26
I am after a budget preamp for an ipod going into a small PA in a nightclub. Any ideas? Budget £50-100 Hi; If you have a PA in a nightclub you would probably have the pre-amp already i.e. the mixer. just take the output from the 3.5mm jack to any available line input to your mixer, be careful not to use an input designed for vinyl record decks which will have a different impedance. You might have to experiment with adjustments of the I-pod's volume control which should be kept on the lowish side, and the input gain control on the mixer in order to get a distortion free signal. The connecting lead will probably need to be a stereo 3.5mm jack to two 6.35mm mono jack or phonos depending on your mixer type.Again, depending on the type of mixer, available channels would be marked as "line" "Aux" or you can use the tape input or "2track" input if no others are available although you will not usually be able to adjust the EQ on these inputs
Dj Dunc
My mp3 player does a line out setting as well as headphone out as well which is pretty useful as I just used to use a line mixer for stuff. But then ive upgraded to a 22ch. my point is, check your ipod has no line output setting
