Ben Lawrance
Hi All, As I'm sure most of you are aware (actually, I hope all of you), Christmas is just around the corner. I'm thinking about buying a snow machine (for obvious reasons) but Im bamboozled by the market. There are loads of el cheapo discotastic models, and I have only found a few Pro models. Are the cheapo's any good? Scenario: Medium (ish) sized village with a pub in the very heart of it. I want to put a snow machine on the roof to simulate snow falling outside the door / windows. I have thought about weather proofing, and that side of it is all ok. I just want the right machine for the job. Any suggestions / recomendations? CheersBen
mumbles
Also, so as not to start a new topic; Has anyone used a le maitre silent storm snow machine? An event that I'm helping to organise is looking at it. What I'd like to know, is how hungry are they, and how effective are they for a good effect over a 10x10m dance floor? Ta blue room. :P and sorry ben.
sparkyweb
I was actually disappointed with the Le Maitre machine, we have used the cheaper alternatives and found them to be better. The LM one does have DMX but is much more expensive, I have also found that the snow on the LM one does not really settle and isn't that "quiet" Its not actually built in the UK, its built by their sister company in Canada. Don't get me wrong its still good, but not for the money
dave singleton
I quite like our snow machines. They're not amazingly expensive machines and quite noisy but they are incredibly controllable. Ben, if its just for a couple of things a year and the rest of the time it'll sit in the lockup gathering dust I would recommend giving us a call and hiring one for what you need. Even the cheep buy and it doesn't matter approach doesn't work as you'll properly come to use it next year and something is more than likely to go wrong with it. jon-son-of-a-techy
I did an am-dram show and we used 4 sound-lab snow machines and they were rubbish and left a horrible mark on the seats in the hall. :D there not that good don't use them. paul the paranoid lampy
The CITC Little Blizard is a nice machine, http://www.citcfx.com/, they also do a "dry" fluid that stops the sludge you get left behind with.

sparkyweb
The Little Blizzards are also very good. They are significantly quieter than the ones mentioned earlier (and a few years ago) on this thread. We have a few of them and are now asked for in preference to the Antari / zoom / source style.
