Ben Lawrance
Hi All, I've been given the task of finding some software that we can use to advertise the pub/club, and the special offers etc. I am after something like Powerpoint, but that is alot better. Something that has better effects and lots more graphics & fonts etc. This is really hard to explain in words but imagine lots of animation and movement. I'm not a video guy at all, so please forgive my newbieness (is that even a word?) It will run on a Win XP machine with a composite video out, running to a matrix, supplying 6 Plasma screen around the building. Cheers

bruce
Another option would be to use something like Onelan, http://www.onelan.co.uk (there are many other similar products) Basically a standalone box loaded with custom software - it breaks the display into zones, and you can have static text, scrolling, images, video clips and/or live video in each zone. You can give different people different levels of access via a simple web interface, so (for example) the bar staff could be authorised to change the scrolling text along the bottom, and change the TV channel (there's an integrated freeview card which can display in one zone), but not change other areas.... WJProctor
SMIL is an option. But again a steep learning curve, allows you todo basically what you want, but you would have to hardcode it. Whats wrong with using powerpoint? Otherwise its alot to learn and alot of investment. Regards James

Peter F
HeroglyphProdad Website This software is very easy to use once you have paid a little attention to the tutorial. You can create mpegs from it and then use a media player (I would suggest videolan) to play your adverts. It's capable of animating text, moving static graphics or video around and all sorts of other splendid things. There is a fully functioning demo available to download. The cheap version is £50The singing & dancing one is £166 A colleague uses Adobe Premiere Elements for the same purpose but it won't install on either my laptop or desktop. Be aware, Elements requires a certain level of processor, Heroglyph does not make the same demands. Peter

Bryson
I thought vegas was movie-editing software, along the line of FCP or Premiere? All the people I know who do "Powerpoint" type stuff for a living use Director for anything that needs a bit "more" although the OneLan software looks like it may be more "pub/club" friendly. A company I've had some dealings with, Computer DJ were describing a system something like OneLan to me, but it must be still in development, as I can't find it on their site. You could ring and ask. MarkPAman
I thought vegas was movie-editing software, along the line of FCP or Premiere? It is. I have used it to play live to a screen several times (once the thing has been put together), and it has many text & effects generators. Then you can make a DVD & give it to the customer! peteharding
Hi, Take a look at sedao, its dead easy to use, very featured and does lots of tricks such as clipped html pages rss feeds and other wizzy stuff. Its what we use, its the cheapest digital signage software on the market as far as I could find to do the sort of thing you are asking for and runs on any std windows pc. http://www.sedao.co.uk/ Best Pete. I think it will suit your needs but am unsure of cost.I believe there's a demo version on there.
Stuart91
I've been reading this topic with some interest, because one of our current installation projects is a Community Centre who are keen to try out Digital signage. I took a look round websites for both Screenfly and the Sedao software. Both look like they'd do the trick, however Screenfly costs £449 (for the executive version) whereas Sedao's Image Flyer costs £1895! I'm sure there must be some difference between the two to justify the extra cash, but can't see it. Anyone got any ideas?

There's lots of digital signage packages available ranging from 'down and dirty' to £100,000 retail solutions. Our solutiions are all about high quality with ease of use and our record and clients speak volumes. Please download our solution against this one or any other and compare. My reason for this reply is that there is an unintentional inference here that our package starts at £1895 which could be misleading. Image Flyer is the player software most of these threads mentioned and is £995 (£795 in education). If you are looking for Karaoke style you only need this and a £10 clip art CD (We give away a piece of RSS creator softare) or we recommend istockphoto.com for artwork. The £1895 is a bundle price for this and QuickChange (which is a different league again) Dave @ Sedao
