fogg
Yeah not a bad looking mic but I know these mics and the price will fly up on that! I know I am probably going to end up paying alot for a capsule but if it is NOS then I know its going to be in perfect working order. I found some capsules a while ago on the german ebay but can't seem to find them now, does anyone know if any other AKG mics used the same capsule as the D12 range? I just thought I would try a post on here just incase someone has one sitting in a box at the back of the shed (I should be so lucky)!
dbuckley
I have exactly the same problem, a D12 with no bottom end, so if you find a source of capsules, please post.
fogg
Hi I have found the Capsules on the german site. A bit pricey but thought I would let you know about them. I think I am going to keep on the lookout for a cheaper one! Anyway here is the link AKG D12 Capsule
paulears
I think for that price, I'd be tempted to settle for a D112. The D12 has a more 'round' sound to my ears and if this is the sound you want, great - but it struggles with the modern 'clicky' sound. The D112 can't be quite so warm or deep as a D12 in good nick. £120 ish is just a little too high in my book to be justified - unless you really love the sound - but then again, I guess you do - or you wouldn't have posted. fogg
I like the d112 but its definately for that "rock" sound. For the style of music we play (reggae/ska) its great for the nice bottom end thud (when its working correctly). I guess with a bit of eg the d112 could be made to sound less clicky but I'll keep looking and see if one of these capsules comes up cheaper somewhere. What do you think about the beta 52? This seems to be around the same price as the d112, I have heard it and it sounds alot "bigger" than the d112.
paulears
I have heard some good sounds from people bringing in kit with Shures in the kick - but I often wonder if it's just their bottom end performance on the PA? I'm a firm believer in favourites for certain things, but have often liked something, when 'forced' to try it, and done it again.
fogg
I might give the d112 a try they seem to be pretty cheap and there lots around second hand. I spose you can never have enough mics! Anyone on here selling a d112?? (worth a try!) At least I'll have something that I can use until I can get the d12e repaired.
fogg
Hi there I emailed a guy at AKG a few days ago about a replacement capsule for the AKG D12E aparantly these capsules are still availble and retail at £83 plus postage and tax. If anyone is interested in a replacement capsule then send me a pm and I'll send you the email of the guy I contacted. Simon
Simon MFR
I have heard some good sounds from people bringing in kit with Shures in the kick Use a D112 with Beta 91...it all comes together. I agree that the d112 requires more work than some to get the right sound, but doesent contemporary pop/rock/whatever require a click on the kick? I personally I like a good 'deep' kick sound... Peter Chivers
I have found the Sennheiser E602 kick microphone sounds very similar to my D12. ( Yes I have never yet liked the D112)
