Strand Dongle, Mouse Problems

Hi,

I’ve got a little problem with using the Strand Designers Dongle and a PS2 mouse,

I’m currently using a Strand 520i Desk (running the latest software), with a PS2 trackball mouse, as out desk trackball isn’t very good and sticks.

We’ve also got a USB Designers key for out lighting designers to connect to the desk and view the screens and also edit things like text, times and such like.

Now our problem is when the laptop is connect to the desk with the usb key it stops the mouse from working. This is resolved when the laptop is removed and the desk reset.

But when the laptop is connect again it stops working again.

This only happens when you log in as users upwards of 1,

But we don’t want the designers to log in to the desk as user 1 as it affects what’s happening for the operator live.

If anyone could suggest any ideas so that our mouse will work we’ll be grateful as its very annoying, even more so when were using lots of moving lights.

Thank You in advance

Fran

its transfering control from youre external mouse (the ps2 one) onto the onboard one of the laptop perhaps?

Just to hijack this topic for a moment, so I am I right in thinking, if you have a trackball mouse connected to your 500 console, and use it to control pan and tilt, (as you would do the trackball on the console) you can log on using your designers remote and laptop, with trackball mouse, and control moving lights through the designers remote???

It's just always been my understanding after conversations with strand and Stage LX that you couldn't use the designers key and a trackball mouse with moving lights??

If this isn;t the case, and people know how to do it, please, please could you drop me a PM and tell me how to do it!!

cheers

Tank

That's my understanding too. I don't think that connecting an external trackball to the main console will make any difference here.

What you can do is use VirtualPC/VMWare/Parallels to run a complete copy of the Strand software on your laptop, and network it to the 520 as a remote console. If you've got the correct mouse drivers installed on the virtual machine, then you can use that machines trackpad/mouse to control your moving lights. Getting all of this working requires some pretty scary voodoo, though.

Cheers,

Simon.
