ThomJ
I have been asked and my initial reaction is no - but just to be sure: Can Halogen (150w outdoor floods) lights be flashed off and on, and therefore be controlled by a standard disco type controller (obviously within its power restrictions) Thom :(

the kid
You will find like pars they don't have a very good cool down time, I have done it before but not allot only 3/4 times a show.
Fletch
I agree - no real reason why not. I've done this with the 500W versions and it was fine. It's just a resistive load like any other bulb as far as the switching / dimmer is concerned.
ThomJ
Thanx guys - my questioner is using them for an outdoor (v low buget) event which is why he's using this type of fitting. TVM Thom
paulears
don't forget they do have a habit of blowing up and shattering - outside ones rarely have any protection to stop the hot glass falling on people, so make sure they are not above people. bruce
I know it's not directly relevant to this thread, as you're using them outdoors, but be aware that these units run hot, and some have labels saying "for outdoor use only". So if you were to use them indoors, and something were to catch fire, your insurers would have a get-out clause.
lightsource
Further to Bruce's point of heat (I have never used 150w, so this only relates to my useage of the 500w halogens) but they can also melt gels fairly quickly. As you are using these as disco lights, it may be worth testing them first.
brianmaiden
I use a batten of four inddors for a handful of flashes a night as blinders/production/cleaning/go home lights and they're fine. lamps from tescos of all places, about 99p, last longer than other 'cheap' lamps.
