david.elsbury
Hey all Is it possible to get long-life versions of CP62 PAR-64 lamps? I'd like to use them in my church install to save on having the lamps blow at inopportune moments. I'm not too concerned about output (though it would be good if they were roughly the same) and I'd prefer not to go with raylight conversion kits (if these are even available for 64's. ThanksDavid
musht
Not sure if you will get a PAR 64 long life that wouldn`t lose either output or colour temperature, usually both, thicker filament more supports :-( CP, Colour Photography, 230v PAR 64s already have a lower colour temperature than their 120V brothers.Could lock off maximum trim to 95% but lose output and colour temperature. Ray light reflectors are available in 64 size but lamp life and reliabilty are a bit of a joke. What about Souurce 4 pars or, er, similar, sure you can get longer lifed HPL or GKV lamps intended for architectural installs.
gareth
Knocking the level of a par down from full to 90% doesn't really make much appreciable difference to light output or colour temp, but should have a positive effect on lamp life. Give it a go - you might be surprised!
paulears
and make sure you buy 240V versions, NOT the 230V european versions - 5% over voltage in most parts of the UK is enough to reduce lamp life. Many people are importing 230V versions on the assumption that we've been harmonised, when we of course haven't really. This summer we sourced 240 labelled PAR64 lamps and the number of replacements dropped astoundingly - we used half the quantity we have used in the past two years with 230V labelled glass. Don Allen
Using two 120 volt PAR cans in series gives you a lot longer life span as there is less stress across the filament, It is better value to have 120 volt pairs as side lights as they last longer and you get a wider beam coverage.
