andycat
Can anyone suggest some budget (ish) active wedges for my school? They are only going to be used once or twice a year, but there is also the possibility of the usual teacher "we need it now" that precludes hiring.Looking for reliability and longevity over sound quality due to the nature of their use! ;) They will only be used for backing track singalongs etc, I don't envisage any bands turning up to play! Stutwo
Look at the powered speakers post on this page, it's got all the usual suspects in there, most powered speakers will double as wedges, the Mackie SRM series being the ones most will recommend. I use the 450's and they have never let me down.

A pair of SRM450's would take my budget for the year and some! So let's say around £180-250 each then to narrow it down if anyone has any experience at this lower price range please. lightsource
Have a look at the Carlsbro Gamma active, or the db basic series of active cabs or the Studiomaster PAX 10/12 active wedges (although may be a bit lacking in power)
Matt Riley
We've got some samson db500s somewhere on one of our sites- they seem to work, although I don't really have to go near them that often, so couldn't give any objective comment as to how good they sound. I think that they are about 280 each. Also look at thomann 'the box' ev sx300 active copies. They might work for the price. B*ger have got a mackie srm copy which may also do the job within the price range, although I'm not a great fan of blatent plagiarism.
MarkPAman
The Studiospares Fortissimo Active sound pretty good for the money, But I must admit that I forgot to look to see if they will sit on the floor as a wedge. Somebody will know though :D
