Had more people enquire about it than the other gear. I've been in touch with the OP about this. Rob

strandgsx
Hey Carey, In all honesty the new dx is a massive improvement. the main things are , no more stupid handles on the top of the top packs, they are recessed in the sides, the system is much more powerful (2.4 old actor, 3.6 dx). the digital amps are fantastic, great overall controll of the pa and its still as light and useable as ever. the main downside is that for us as a hire company we could just send out two subs etc on dry hires, unfortunately you cant use cabs stand alone bar the tops which is a real shame. If you want to hear or see them feel more than welcome to pop over to the warehouse (Kent) we are there monday- saturday 9am till 4, (as after 4 pm is pub time). Thanks Mark.We have been pushing our dual stack Actor Mk1 quite hard and it is showing signs of wear, and hitting the limit a bit quicker than before. We may consider the small step to the DX, or try the Deacon series at this particular venue.Regards,Carey
Pastie Kid
I attended music live in birmingham at the beginning of november, I went along as a punter *cough* college student on the education day *cough* with the intention of seeing some live bands. I managed to catch the end of a band called breed 77, who I quite liked, and hung around to see sikth, but was not impressed at the sound, I dont know if it is because I have been working with funktion one's resolutions for most of the year or whether there was something genuinely wrong with the sound system, but other people I was there with, who arent audio pro's, also had bad things to say about the sound, which I believe was supplied by HK Audio (saw some big banners).thought I'd just have a quick friendly rantlaterz

My mate Lez Patterson from Q Audio was doing the FOH sound for the bands that didn't have their own engineers. There was a point over the weekend when somehow one of the fan cooling panels on the back of one of the amp racks was accidently unplugged and caused one of the amps powering 4 of the subs on the right hand side to overheat and go down. We fixed that problem quite quicky and I'm not sure if that was when you were listening or not but if it was you would have noticed it.We were using a Soundcraft MH2 32 channel on FOH with a KT Graphic and DBX comps, BSS Gates, TC FX. I totally agree with you that the Sound was far from perfect. The room was not very long and the system was aimed slightly to high creating a slight slapback off the back wall. The truss that the system was flown from was about 2-3 meters forward of the stage meaning that we had trouble rigging and hitting the first row of the crowd. Both of these factors were out of my control and as usual in this game compromises had to be made. All of this aside though I thought the system (with playback or well engineered band) sounded great, unfortunately some of the engineers for the bands didn't do a great job making it sound not so great at times. The problem with sound is that everyone has an opinion and what I like, what you like and what the bands engineer likes can be completely different. Hope this has shed some light on the gig and given you a background of what was going on. MarkMark are you from Phonophobia/Powerbase? If so hello it's Stuart here your HK rep. You can send out 2 subs 2 tops if you want, you can send out one powered and one unpowered to run off it (mono) or just 2 powered for stereo and not use the speakon outs. Hope you're well and Hi to Andy. Stu
Pastie Kid
slight slapback??I noticed there were large drapes hung along the sides of the hall, but strangely not the back.I did take a wander around FOH and noticed the control racks.the mix was good but the overall sound was very harsh, too harsh for my likes or the people with me.I was there on the friday, the "education" day, fair play I am in college, but that wont last long, its covering things ive learnt from work.I saw most of Breed 77's set, and consequently I now own every song theyve released.I dont think I was there when the fan panel packed in, I was too busy trying to listen past the harshness.playback did sound better than the bands I caught bits of, but I was hanging back around FOH just out of habit, less crowded, better sound etc.off to college (zzzzzzzzz)laterz ;)
