stevieboi
hi all I've just bought the above, im hoping to be able to use it to plug an extra mic into a spare jack socket on my mixer. from the description it seems that this adaptor should change the low impedance XLR to a high impedance jack - quote from shure website - A85F - Line Matching Transformer, Low Impedance Female XLR to High Impedance 1/4-inch Phone Plug Economy low- to high-impedance microphone matching transformer provides 24 dB of voltage gain and may be used in reverse. it doesnt seem to be any different to plugging the mic in with a standard XLR to jack lead. is there a manual anywhere? does it need a battery? the way I read it is that it should increase the gain so I wouldnt have to turn the gain up so far to get a decent signal? any help appreciated, thanks. I assume you are trying to plug your mic into a line level input. A simple transformer will not have enough gain to allow you to do that. You will need a mic pre somewhere in the circuit.
