fitsjohn
Hi folks, Just doing some research here and am wondering what make drivers funktion one put in their boxes. I know the turbosound cabs were Fane and more recently Precision devices. I am looking at maybe buying some F118 bins . Has anyone used them or comment on them. thanks John

phil dekked
The F118 is half a 218! So having used 218`s quite a lot, here`s my two pennies worth...! It is not a great cab on its own. The nature of the BP/ Horn design means it`s best when used in 2 boxes or more. Depending on how / where you going to use them a standard reflex design will go lower and louder in a single 18" on it`s own. I take the 40hz +/- 3 db spec of a single F118 with a pinch of salt!If however you intend using a few round a room then yes they are great! They have used a mixture of Fane and PD drivers over the years in the 218`s / 118`s. The older boxes tend to have PD`s , newer Fanes. And I think they`ve switched back to PD`s again..? .p. fogg
Havent heard the 118's but I heard the 218's (well 6 218's) at chaperfield gardens in norwich a few years ago along with 8 of the resolution 4 cabs, I thought the sound was amazing. This was the first time I had seen the funktion one cabs and automatically thought.. tarted up turbosound cabs! Anyway yeah I think they sould great, really nice tight bottom end and crisp highs, I beleive alot of clubs use them for dance music, but when I heard them it was a live band running through the system and it sounded very nice. I beleive the company was Beat Audio, not sure if any of the guys from there are on this forum, if you are say hello!

Has anyone used them or comment on them. thanks John Hi John, We are part of the Funktion One Rental Network so we have a lot of experience with their products. They use custom Fane drivers in all their speakers. The F118's are excellent. Don't listen to people who will try to tell you otherwise. Find out who your nearest dealer is and get a demo of them. You need to put a pretty big amp on them to get the most out of them. We use MC2 E45's. The F118 goes down to 50Hz not 40Hz. Any figures that FO come out with I would take pretty seriously. They tend to be fairly modest in their specs. What are you planning to use them for and with what top boxes? I recommend the Res1, RM12 or RM15's. You'd be amazed at how big a sound you can get with those combinations.
saturnx21
Hi I was at a club last Friday (its opening night after refurb) and I spent most of the time stood right in front of there new F218s and they are bl**dy awesome!!! (the f218s are just double f118s) I have spent the last few days persuading my business partners to invest in a pair for our own (big) rig!!! Finally they have agreed to getting a pair........ So to sum up they are great
gnomatron
I was at the opening night of a club in ireland last night and they had two Funktion One disco stacks, and a couple of flown cabs. Very nice system, 3 218s a side, and one of the double infrahorns under the dj. Sounded very crisp, good rock'n'roll PA. Being used to D&bs flat clarity, older martin gear and generic disco guff it was a very pleasant change.
TallMike
What are you planning to use them for and with what top boxes? I recommend the Res1, RM12 or RM15's. RM12s and RM15 (stage monitors) for top boxes?!? ;)
Animal
What are you planning to use them for and with what top boxes? I recommend the Res1, RM12 or RM15's. RM12s and RM15 (stage monitors) for top boxes?!? ;) They are dual purpose and have pole mounts in the end. The RM12 is pretty much a Res 1 in the format of a floor wedge. The bennefit of using the RM's is that you can maximise your inventory a bit more as we do. 2x RM15's with a single F218 is an awsome little system. andyc
Ive seen alot of function one in club installs, very nice, (as long as the HF is wired in the correct phase, ahem ahem, but thats another story) ive yet to hear them in a dynamic r'n'r setting though. HF on Res 4's is supposed to be wired with the phase reversed (inside the box). This is a common trick used by loudspeaker designers to ensure a smooth response around the crossover frequency. Cheers James.
