Chris Lowe
I know to many people this will seem like the most stupid question ever but when you are connecting an amp to speakers using a speak on to bare end cable, which of the black or red cables is + and which is - ? Ive never needed to know which is which as ive only just started and I really thought that this would probably be the best place to find out. Cheers p.s. no piss taking please :) :)
bruce
Definitive answer: The one that is wired to the + terminal of the speakon is +, and the one that is wired to the - terminal is -.... It would be reasonable to assume that red is + and black is - (and I generally would...) but if you're unsure, it only takes seconds to unscrew the shell and have a look..... Peter Chivers
Just to add a thought to Bruce's very good answer, even if you've bought ready made speakon cables, you still need to check both ends if you have to modify a lead to get speakon to ...A few years ago I was caught out by a ready made lead which had been wired with black as positive and red as negative! oops! Scouse Dave
It's also a good idea to check that both ends are wired the same. There are a lot of reversed cables out there... Dave M
