chris512 Posted December 18, 2003 Posted December 18, 2003 hi all! just taking a well deserved (I think) rest after producing and lx designing/board oping our last school in our old building. about 2 months ago we got a new pearl 2004 desk which I used for this show and for the majority of acts used theatre stacking and some of the other features on the desk. was just wondering if anyone here uses the pearl and if they could give me any advice on the desk, tips and tricks etc... as I was speaking to another technician the other day who said he has used avolite and pearls for many years now but still learns new things with the desk, so with me only using it for 2 months its all a bit new! ** laughs out loud ** thanks for your help in advance!
merlin24 Posted December 19, 2003 Posted December 19, 2003 Contact Avolites They run courses on all of their consoles. I would strongly recommend this as you then will get much more out of the desk. Avolites consoles are not the most intuitive consoles when it comes to theatre playback and proper training is advisable. Regards
WolvesAndi Posted December 19, 2003 Posted December 19, 2003 What lights are you using with the Pearl. are they all generic or do you have some movers.I have been using a pearl for years and then went a course when work paid and learnt alot that I didnt know. Also watch other lampies when they come in, I learnt alot this way.But dont be afraid to try all the features on the pearl, just sit and experiment, go through the shape generators and vary the size and speed of each one and you can produce some fantastic effects.

One bit of advise I can offer is to make sure that you back up regularly!!
chris512 Posted December 19, 2003 Author Posted December 19, 2003 just to give a little more background we are currently using 3 x Act6 dimmers with various strand laterns, sl's and parnels and also have 4 x mac500, 4 x mac250+, 20 x mac250 and 4 x mac300s. in the last show I used about 18 of these macs and about 18 generics.
SparkySteve Posted December 20, 2003 Posted December 20, 2003 I'm not sure if this has been cured in program updates, but whatever you do..... DO NOT edit, copy, photo copy or paste fromn cue 10. you'll lose all your fixtures, positions and cues/chases. bit of a bugger really
vinny baby Posted January 5, 2004 Posted January 5, 2004 yes I have encounted this problem, bit of an ass, realy. But yes as others have said, take the Avo course, I have used the pearl many times, and know quite a bit, BUT there are still times when I see other chaps, on the desk do something, and I have to say, WHOOOOOOOOOh, how you do that, there are many features on the pearl and if your not carefull you could miss, something that you realy need to know. Contact AVO, and get your self booked in. vince
gil-galad Posted February 2, 2004 Posted February 2, 2004 You want to get trained at Avo they make it and they know how it works inside out. There are too many people out there who are afraid to get training. The training Lady is called Lindsey and you get free lunch and swag all for thirty odd quid. But as you own a console you may be eligble for free training. email her at lindsey@avolites.com

I have found Avolites very helpful.
gil-galad Posted February 4, 2004 Posted February 4, 2004 DO NOT edit, copy, photo copy or paste fromn cue 10. you'll lose all your fixtures, positions and cues/chases.Just to clarify for any who don't know, this is a fault in theatre stack programming. They do know (I asked) and it has been fixed in the soon to be available update. And then we can have shapes in chases (wahey!!!)
