ryandell Posted August 7, 2006 Posted August 7, 2006 hi, I have just bought some KAM IMS15 MK1 PRO SPEAKERS and I was wondering if anyone on this site had some of these or if anyone knew if they were active or not Cheers Ryan
Bobbsy Posted August 7, 2006 Posted August 7, 2006 Or a slightly different :o .... http://www.kam.co.uk/products/speakers/ims...akers/index.htm It would appear that IMS15 would be passive and IMS15A would be active. Bob
Tomo Posted August 7, 2006 Posted August 7, 2006 I know this sounds harsh, but you really are crazy! Why did you buy something if you didn't know what it does?If they are powered, then you won't need amplifiers, but if they are unpowered then you will. Amps are expensive, not to mention the (minor) detail that if you plug an amplified source into a powered speaker you are fairly likely to kill it.
jayselway Posted August 8, 2006 Posted August 8, 2006 I must assume that you have purchased these off an online auction, or a similar style site - as otherwise you would surely have been informed, as to whether they are powered or not. If in doubt, check carefully as to the powering situation - as Tomo says - send a passive unit a non amplified signal, and not a lot will happen. Whereas if you send an amplified signal to a powered unit, then the damage could be a bit costly, to say the least!!!
Bobbsy Posted August 8, 2006 Posted August 8, 2006 From what I can tell (their web site is long on hyperbole and short on facts) the passive speakers have speakon inputs while the active versions don't. This may well provide you with the clue you need. Bob
Trunker Posted August 12, 2006 Posted August 12, 2006 These speakers are OK for the money, you get what you pay for! They are Alright for pure vocals in a small(ish) room due to their high pitched resonance, but you won't put a lot of bass through these at their so called rating, they don't like that! :~(

Hello,This is a really old post but as the author id like to clear it up, basically tomo the guy had them advertised as "active" so I assumed they were active but when I saw the active IMS pro's I saw a difference in them, so I posted on this forum when I was trying to find out whether they were active or passive as the guy wouldnt answer his phone. I was only tryin to find out whether they were passive or active in a hurry before I would waste my money on them !!In the end it turned out that they were passive and he also said hed chuck an amp in with them because they were passive and he had advertised them as active, but he never did Ryan
