Trundle Posted August 7, 2006 Posted August 7, 2006 Does anyone know where I can get a cheap simple USB-DMX 3 pin XLR cable? I just want something that plugas into my computer and that will control a Dimmer pack, a scanner, a laser-dosnt matter weather all together or not but I just want something simple! I have been searching the market for ages and cannot find one!

Some starter links are here on our very own lighting FAQ....
Don Allen Posted August 8, 2006 Posted August 8, 2006 The thing to be aware of with "cheap" usb to DMX interfaces is that they are run by the computers cpu so their timing output can vary with computer activities. The more expensive "pro" DMX interfaces have an internal microcontroller that provides a constant DMX output from its buffer input. If you want to get reliable results from a "cheap" DMX interface, strip off all non essential functions from the pc so it is only running the lighting prgramme.
Ben Langfeld Posted August 8, 2006 Posted August 8, 2006 Sweetlite would work, but in my experience it's not been particularly....good. Very vague there I know, but I just didn't get on well with it when I had to use it to control 4 Mac 250 Entours and 2 Mac 500 Washes. A lack of "move when dark" feature and lack of a useable cue stack got me.
