mikeburnie Posted August 2, 2006 Posted August 2, 2006 Going to be putting on a play called My Fat Friend in January 2007. The female lead has to lose about 3 stones during the course of the play. Where can I get a realistic fat costume from, to buy or hire ? The only ones I have seen have been fancy dress ones and not really suitable. The fat suit is worn underneath a huge blue dress so wont really be seen, but it needs to be simple & quick to put on and take off. Most of all it needs to look realisticly proportioned. Any advice on acquiring or making would be appreciated. Mike
Stu Posted August 3, 2006 Posted August 3, 2006 Hi Mike There was a national tour of this play in 2004 by Ian Dickens Productions - I don't have a phone number, but if you can get hold of them perhaps the might still have it in storage or know where they hired it from originally. Hope this helps, even if it's a longshot! Stu
w/robe Posted August 3, 2006 Posted August 3, 2006 The National used to have some, a long time ago, their hire dept is on 020 7587 0404, or depending on how long you need it for it may be cheeper to have it made. If you want to do this I could make you one or put you in touch with other makers if you PM me. The quicker you need to remove it the less realistic it may be so it would be good to have an idea of how quick the change is quite early on in the process.
Jivemaster Posted August 15, 2006 Posted August 15, 2006 Three stone is not a lot! There are people in our hospital 10 - 20 stone overweight. How fit is the talent any amount of padding will be very hot to work in for an hour. Is this weight loss instant or gradual? What about something on the lines of a shortie wet suit but made from a duvet. Put long zips from the neckline to the bottom of the legs and then it will zip on and off like a Para's jump suit. Really fat people become mobility impaired and their arms don't point down but out and their knees dont come together. The slab of fat down the inside of the thighs also extends downwards and starts to interfere with mobility of the knees. Is the character Caucasian, look carefully and you see that different ethnic groups put weight on differently, The suit could try to match expectetions!
