benatkinson Posted August 2, 2006 Posted August 2, 2006 Hi guys and girls, Just wondering why the behringer mono DI box is commonly more expensive than the stereo one. Why is this?Is the stereo one less quality? Thanks, Ben
MarkPAman Posted August 2, 2006 Posted August 2, 2006 The mono one has an unbalanced XLR & two 1/4" Jacks on the input. The stereo only has one jack. The mono one is also in a much studier box - coincidently very much like the BSS box  . Note that their 8 channel box costs less than twice the price of the mono!
ojc123 Posted August 2, 2006 Posted August 2, 2006 By the 'stereo one' do you mean the D120? The D120s are very noisy (hissy) compared to the GI100 which we also have. I guess the DI100 is more like the GI100 than the D120. The GI100 is a bit noisy if the cab simulator is used but is otherwise good. I only use my D120s as a last resort. Far too noisy. (BTW I have no connection with either company. They were the first on google.)
Alec Posted August 2, 2006 Posted August 2, 2006 Yup, the DI20s are crap - way too noisy. I've got two DI100s which are fine, but I've never used the DI20 as it is so noisy. Should have taken it back, but couldn't be bothered at the time. But it's a complete waste of space - the only real lemon I've had from Behringer.
Stuart91 Posted August 2, 2006 Posted August 2, 2006 I've also had problems with the D120s - just couldn't get them to function without distorting. We've still got a few D100s around and they seem to work well enough.
Bobbsy Posted August 2, 2006 Posted August 2, 2006 I'll just reiterate something that MarkPAman said in case it gets lost in the shuffle... Do note that the eight channel Ultra DI 1600 costs less than double the DI100. I can vouch that the 8 channel unit works well...and with more and more keyboards etc. appearing on stage/in the pit, I'm more and more often finding I need something approaching that number of channels. Bob
Ben Langfeld Posted August 2, 2006 Posted August 2, 2006 Has anyone used the ULTRA-DI DI400P? At £15 RRP, these things are a bargain. Thinking about buying a box load, but would be interested to know if they're as noisy as the DI120s.
Sound Man Posted August 3, 2006 Posted August 3, 2006 Just wondering why the behringer mono DI box is commonly more expensive than the stereo one.I think its because the DI100 has an output balancing transformer inside it but the DI120 dosen't (all electronic). I only use my D120s as a last resort. Far too noisy.I agree, I do a lot of church PA and the noise from it when I used it on an acoustic guitar made it unusable. It worked better though on an electronic keyboard so I just keep it by me in case the keyboard player insists that I plug his keyboard into the system in stereo.
Alec Posted August 4, 2006 Posted August 4, 2006 Has anyone used the ULTRA-DI DI400P? At £15 RRP, these things are a bargain. Thinking about buying a box load, but would be interested to know if they're as noisy as the DI120s. Hadn't spotted that one until you mentioned it. It's probably a darned site better than the DI20 which is hampered by crap electronics. The DI400P is passive, so a completely different kind of beast. None of the flexibility that many of the active boxes give, but no requirement for phantom power either, which can be a boon. I find passives fine for line level sources (keyboards, drum machines, output from PC/CD/MD) but a decent active is far better for accoustic guitars.
Ben Langfeld Posted August 4, 2006 Posted August 4, 2006 The DI400P is passive, ... *Reads title again*...Of course it is! I noticed that, honest... :)
timrobsund Posted August 30, 2006 Posted August 30, 2006 similar question, Has anyone used the berhinger rack mounted DI4000 or DI8000, We're looking at buying the DI8000 more channels but also cheaper, which I can;t understand, also the DI4000 seem to have all the connections the wrong way around.... Jack on the back ,XLR on the front.. maybe that is logical in some situations...
Bobbsy Posted August 30, 2006 Posted August 30, 2006 Do you mean the DI800? I haven't encountered a DI8000, but with the speed Behringer add to their range, I'm prepared to believe anything! Anyway I've used the DI800 (rented) several times and have been happy with the results. In my case, it was mainly for a pile of keyboards where having 8 channels in 1 RU was useful. I've also run a bass through it and that was okay as well. Having seen your other post, the one thing to consider is your stage wiring: will it always be convenient to run back to a central DI box or will you need a few single ones too? I haven't tried the DI4000 for comparison sake...they seem to be claiming a high quality OP transformer for that one so that may be the cause of the higher price. I do agree that for most uses having the XLRon the front and IPs on the back is less than convenient. Bob
adamburgess Posted August 30, 2006 Posted August 30, 2006 Our band have the DI800 and it seems fine - especially for about 60 quid. It's used for 2x keys, bass, acoustic guitar and two electric guitars DI'ed from FX units. No problems yet in around 30 gigs.
Ben Langfeld Posted August 30, 2006 Posted August 30, 2006 The Behringer DI4000 has been pretty painful to use for me. Firstly, the connectors being the wrong way round is a right pain. Secondly, the channels seem to die randomly. Not good. Lost 2 channels out of the 4 already. Meant that at one point, the only bass was comming from the bassists amp, and same for guitar 2. Fortunately, the venue was rather tiny so I got away with it, but I really wasn't happy. Not at all reliable for me. Going to see if Behringer will replace it next week.
BlueShift Posted August 30, 2006 Posted August 30, 2006 the di4000 is a great unit. its designed to sit in a synth rack or a keys players rack in which case its all the right way around o that the source wiring s all tucked away and all the connections and switches the sound man wats to see are on the front...
