mumbles Posted July 11, 2006 Posted July 11, 2006 Right, I'm working on a school musical (Annie) tomorrow, and would like to use my strand 200 in a cue stack type mode, instead of just with subs. I know how to get it the desk to do a cue stack with just scenes using the effects. But, being a school show, they are likely to want to rewrite the script as they go along, and so need to be able to change scenes quickly. What I'd like to be able to do, is use the subs as the cues, so that when I need to change a cue, I can just reprogram 1 sub as opposed to all of the necessary scenes. I've spent a while this evening poring over the manual, and there isn't any suggestion that I can, but thought it was worth a check.
Ynot Posted July 11, 2006 Posted July 11, 2006 Oddly enough, that's EXACTLY what I did to christen our 200 only 2 weeks ago, and the show was.... Annie!! You can just load the scenes in sequence onto the subs, and use the A/B fader to sequence them through the cues from 1-24 page 1, and then onto 1-24 page 2. Gives you 48 cues on a 12/24 version. The sequence is take both sliders to the top, that runs Q1. Pull them both down to the bottom - that LOADS the next cue , and taking both faders up again runs that cue.If you have a blackout, simply bring the A fader down (IIRC) on it's own, before bringing the B fader down to load the next one on the stack. As long as the changes don't include adding a scene in the middle (which is feasible by copying them 'up' one sub at a time but messy!) then you should be fine. To modify a sub whilst in submaster mode, with the relevant sub up, hit single scene mode, make the changes, then record over the sub as normal. Don't forget to go back to submaster mode, tho!! Tony
mumbles Posted July 12, 2006 Author Posted July 12, 2006 Thanks, the problem we had was that we needed about 60 scenes, which on our 12/24 meant we couldn't just have the subs in order and cycle through. Ended up building subs and then putting them into the chase, with some cues the same as previous ones. What I had hoped we could do (somewhat beyond the realms of fantasy here probably), was to be able to use subs like pallettes so that the simple scenes could be changed and then not have to be reloaded into the cues 1 by 1, but would automatically update to match the edited sub. Wasn't too big a problem in the end as the teachers weren't into the 'change script or choreography as we go through tech' kind of mentality, so we were able to make note of certain channels to change, and tweak without cast on stage, but would be useful if I could use the subs in the way above for future shows.
maeterlinck Posted July 12, 2006 Posted July 12, 2006 As a side note/question: How did you find it for doing sub work? I used on recently and I really found it a pain to use and programme. In fact I reckon the Zero88 Frog beats it hands down. Just interested to know how it performed!?!

In fact I reckon the Zero88 Frog beats it hands down. Just interested to know how it performed!?!Really simple. Set up a scene, hit record an hold the sub flash button. But its my own desk so I've used it in sub mode for many shows. In terms of operating woth subs, very much the same as with any other desk. I've used ETCs, strand 300s and there isn't really any difference in opping between any of them. I've recently also got round to adding FX into subs, and the only problem with that comes from the FX panel and not the subs. Would be interested to know anyone else views.
