blackbeast250 Posted July 6, 2006 Posted July 6, 2006 Hi just wondering if anybody has any experience of these cabs , good or bad? thanks, Robin
Furryface Posted July 6, 2006 Posted July 6, 2006 Did an install with them in a Theatre in Cardiff a few years back (actually quite a few years back) and they are OK. They sound like Martin cabs and are loud, but they do have that distinctive honk around 2K that you'll either love or hate. One of the few bits of EQing I had to do on that gig. As far as I'm aware they are still earning their keep. Furry
Chris Hinds Posted July 6, 2006 Posted July 6, 2006 Yes I have a fair amount (4 yrs) experience with Martin W3s, what would you like to know about them? Drivers failed, but only when the systems spent hours rammed against the stops red lights ablaze. Regards Chris

Would imagine they are better live stuff rather than descrete theatre stuff. Besides that they are HUGE compared to some smaller boxes capable of the same spl/coverage. Poppadom

Poppadom Theres currently a WT3 system (the theatre variant) out on the 'Joseph' tour and having heard the system and been shown around it, its certainly very loud (the reason given for choosing these cabs is they necessitate a lack of need for any fills other than fronts- apparently) and not really possessing the clarity of say a D&B F1222 system. Also, they are huge, and if you pair them with (in terms of a stalls stack) 2 Horizontally stacked WS2A's with a WT3 on top, they make a signigicant visual impact. Also, pros hanging them makes them reather visually intrusive (as opposed to say, a pros hung E9), but, they are loud and have an effective and useful coverage pattern.
PoppaDom Posted July 8, 2006 Posted July 8, 2006 Martin describe the W3 as 'compact'! LMFAO - Compact compared to bus maybe!
i_hate_fisicks Posted July 8, 2006 Posted July 8, 2006 Martin describe the W3 as 'compact'! LMFAO - Compact compared to bus maybe! Yeah, you don't fit many in twin flightcases into a sprinter that's for sure!
Rob_Beech Posted July 12, 2006 Posted July 12, 2006 They describe the W8C as a new compact version of the W8. Still, some people say I'm not that fat. I'm not really a fan of the W3's. They sound ok with a little bit of tuning. They dont make bad side fills I find for a medium sized stage. Arrayed with something like a WS2A or similar uinderneath for side fills on a larger stage. I just find that they are too big for what they are for FOH purposes, especially touring. Although some may argue that most of the Wavefront range is too big for what it is for touring. I personally disagree, I love loading in and out with stacks of W8 day in day out. HONEST. Rob
