hey there - I have a gig on thrusday this week and am setting up a small pa as we speak for it.

I have all mic leads sorted and multicore - however I am still lacking some looms for inserting the fx etc

I really need a couple with a mix of stereo jack to 2x monos and then some with XLRs and so on.

I was reluctant to make these up myself as I am unfamiliar of a way to properly loom the individual cables together

and can't imagine it will look as good as what ive seen so far

at a quick glance I spotted some looms in a studiospares catalogue however the price is too high and the arent many options!

anyone got any better suggestions of where to buy or what to do (otherwise Im stuck for thursday!)

cheers, alex

As it happens there's a current and very similar thread here on just this type of topic.....

To be honest, the Studiospares looms are pretty good value. However, all 'off-the-shelf' systems use standard configurations - i.e. all jack or all XLR. If you want something custom then you need to go to manufacturers like VDC. Their looms are well made and will last years but you will pay a lot more for them. On the plus side, you can have any configuration of connectors that you like and any length as all are made to order However, you won't get this by Thursday!

Most professional looms are made using multi-pair cable with the ends broken out, sleeved and terminated. By the sounds of things you need a combination of inserts and straight-through leads for the effects. This can be done on a single loom but perhaps ordering two looms - one a TRS insert loom and the other a straight wiring loom - may be a quick option. You can always use some adaptors to customise the ends where required.

too late now... but www.theloudest.com are usually pretty quick delivery, and have a range of patchy type cables and adaptors.

yeh I spotted these guys on ebay and got a jack to jack insert loom - speedy speedy delievery only problem is theres not very much length at the tails - so they dont spread out and reach all the units!

haha - its thursday - if all else fails my mate says he's got a stereo thats pretty loud so I'll just borrow that and run all the sound through it, "besides it's kinda better anyway cus the speakers light up!"

cheers
