dfinn Posted June 30, 2006 Posted June 30, 2006 Hi, I cannot find anything on here truely specific to my situation so I'm starting a new post. I have a plan to rig the following one one long stretch of truss: 4x 30Kg Moving heads (evenly spaced along the truss)18x 2.12Kg LED Par 64's (in banks of 6 in three sets between the movers) Total Mass = about 160Kg for the units + weight of truss itself and cable. I would like a total span of 6m, possibly 8m I will be using Trilite 200 Truss in 3/4 2000mm sections. Which stands would you recommend for this application and how many would I need. Thanks, Daniel
mumbles Posted June 30, 2006 Posted June 30, 2006 From the loading tables here, the loading max. udl for 6m is 477kg, and 360kg for 8m. Also, the mass would be 16.74 kg for 6m and 22kg for 8m. Assuming symetrical loading, then the load on each stand would be 182kg plus the cable. Allowing for TRS and DMX, and taking a value of 18kg (I don't know how much cable, and what would be a reasonable mass, but if wrong change accordingly), this means 100kg per stand. On top of this, there has to be an allowance for the live lodaing caused by the intels moving. Therefore, a doughty strata 515 with a SWL of 150kgs, or the zenith 520 with a SWL of 200kgs should be adequate. However, while training to be a structural engineer, I'm not qualified to give you an answer. Ring doughty, or possibly optikinetics as they'll be used to dealing with technical enquiries of the sort.
timperrett Posted July 1, 2006 Posted July 1, 2006 Other stands, although they only have a SWL of 80Kg is the Mobil-Tech SP2 TA (www.mobil-tech.com/uk). The advantage is that they only weigh 24Kg themselves - darn sight lighter than a Zineth! So you may want to look at spreading your load out over a few tripods - really depends on venue and setup restrictions. The disadvantage is that it is harder to make sure that each tripod is taking its fair share of the load.Hope that helps!
