Do you guys think that Robe's 250 AT are on the top of this category? There are any chinese Robe's wanna Be's around are they close in quality and performance? brightness?

P.D. I know that there are many threads about Robe heads but now there are many new models from other manufacturers

I personally prefer the mac 250's. the old school originals! I haven't used the latest 250's.

I personally think macs are better, easier to get inside of. and they have comfy handles :)

When I did some A/B comparisons between the 'cheap' units I found the Robe by far the worst optically - poor focus and poor beam. Coemar was infinitely better. Futurelights are horribly unreliable.

In my experience it is the quality of the optic components that makes the difference and given the choice for this I would always go for High End/Clay Paky or Vari-lite. AFAIK out of these three only CP make such units.

So, in answer to your question I think the Robe's are at the bottom of this category & Clay Paky are at the top. But, as always, you pays for what you gets.

I thought I've seen on this room many dudes saying that Robe's had the brightest 250 heads :)

We have just invested in the new Mac250 range and think they are the dogs proverbials! The light output is MUCH higher than the old 250's and if you go for the Entour's, the additional breakup gobos are lovely. Runs nice and quietly too which is a benefit for theatre use.

Now, there are plenty of other 'clones' out there but you know where you are when you buy into a Martin product.

Mac250+ gets my vote... I like being able to stand/fly them righ next to each other without them clashing heads <_< The yoke spins within the boundaries of the base. Plus they have the raspberry ripple gobo :)

I also vote for the MAC 250 entours. They are so much of a step up from the original 250s, great gobos, brighter (at least in my experience) and they even look better!

I want some now <_< my 250's are pretty old, but still going strong. light output is still really good, and I think they have stood the test of time?

I hate the robes, I had to repair one december sort of time, thought it was horrible. I find them loud aswell, but they do have some nice standard gobo's IMO

Mac250 Krypton's are fantastic. They are extremely bright compared to my Mac 500's which have had to go for a through clean and re-lamp to keep up with them.

The 250K's are also very fast and quite.

I H-A-T-E the kryptons for theatre work, although I imagine they could be ok in a club scenario,

the other 250 macs definately get my vote though!

I like the Mac250 Entours as well - rotates within the base, not too noisy and some nice gobos. I think though, I'd have to cast my overall vote for the High End Studio Spot 250, simply because IT HAS AN IRIS!!!! Even if it doesn't have some of the bells and whistles that the newer Mac250s do, the iris is a godsend - it makes life so much easier <_<

Well, there you have it. They aren't very good <_< The 1200 units are much better, but these low power ones are much the same as the other Czech models.

Personally I avoid Martin like the like the plague, but that's historical.

agreed, one of the most irritating facts about the 250 series... maybe martin will incorporate one soon... aah I can hope!
