timtheenchanteruk
Im looking for manufacurers of sub and satellite active speaker systems, ie. a sub with built in 3way amp & crossover with a pair of mid/high sattelite, I know that LEM and gemeni make them, but are there any others?Ive not heard the gemeni, but the LEM one seems to sound ok, It wouls be used in small-med pubs And clubs for a basic disco and kareoke setup (not mine by the way)
ChrisD
HK Audio do some kits similar to that although I don't know if they have an amp in each speaker and an active crossover in the amp. I believe Yamaha and Fender also have systems and a company called Alto (or that might be the model name) as well. Worth googling it.
StevieR
Fohhn Xperience systems. We use them and they are pretty awesome. They have just updated their range and the powered subs now have their new FUSION software included which gives you a host of features including 10-band parametric EQ, compressor and delay. There are 5 tops and 3 subs to choose from which can be mixed and matched as required. Here's the link... http://www.fohhn.com/php/?pid=496#go1 Just noticed that the site is not showing the updated models. hth Steve
J Pearce
The gemini sub and satellites are disco kit. There is a hole between the sub and the satellites, which leaves a feeling of the bass being disconnected from the mid. The bass is also a bit sloppy and boomy. The tops use piezo elements, and lack low mid. Fine for cheap discos but I wouldn't recommend using them for proper sound work. I'd recommend HK audio, or if your budget won't stretch that far then Powerworks, which are HKs budget stuff.
timtheenchanteruk
Cheers for the info, its not actually for me, but a collegue at work who is doing some kareoke work, but wants to have a bit less kit to lug around, ie 2 amps, tops and bins, having seen and heard the LEM stuff these seem ideal, Thanks again
BlueShift
My vote would be for HK Audio or Mackie Active. The HK stuff is better - but pricey. Mackie stuff is a little easier on the budget. Cheers
Tarqs
I use and have a lot of HK active stuff - never let down - the Actor stuff I have is all active. I also have use of some DB - not to be confused with D&B - also very good - active subs and mids- passive tops. Another one to check out is the Dynachord - they have a newish system that is 1 x active sub with 2 x passive tops - you can also add another passive sub - very compact and sound pretty good. zonino
another vote for HK, there is also the MIDAS system which from what you described sounds more suitable than the ACTOR system, also easier to get in the back of the car! the MIDAS has powered bins which also has the amp in for the tops, which have speakon connectors
