southham
Anybody out there had any experience with the Uni-Lyte moving heads. I see the guys at used lx are selling 250 versions for under £500 and 1.2 for less than Mac250's! Are they any good?
Tom R
Used them at the weekend and I have to say that for the money they aren't bad at all! Definitely worth a look at...to be honest though they arent that much more new! If you want more info send me a PM and I can put you in contact with the UK main dealers of them. They may not have Martin Mac written on the side but I, for one, would be happy to pay 1/4 of the price for the loss of the name badge!!
iaindennis
They are a completely new product to the UK market although there have been a few kicking around being tried out for the last six months or so. They have been tested in a number of venues including a punishing club environment. THere have been no reported problems so far. We have had demo stock for just over a month now and everyone who has seen them has been impressed. Clearly, the pricing is exceptionally attractive. Yes, they are chinese but the build quality is excellent. Clearly, a product of this type is not going to be pitched against martin or Robe. Its a budget mover but its a good budget mover. Anyone wanting a demo is welcome to come to have a play at our warehouse in South London. There arent huge stocks in the UK yet - they will be hitting in volume within the next few weeks. Tom R
Just to clarify I was not suggesting that used lx were in any way adding cost to their units - if anything I was emphasising the cost of the units as new being so good! In my experience of using them you get a lot for your money! I would definitely recommend... Tom
dogcop
I would echo Tom R's post about "used lighting". We used them for a fit in our church and they xouldn't be more helpful. If these boys have these movers then you can be assurred of quality service.
LDODD
The yoke plastics are the exact same as the GLP movers. I'd be confident in adding that if they are built in the same factory, then there will be no issues with the electruc componentry o board.Benny is our hero! Optically, the GLP units are very good too, so I'd imagine these will be the same.... (but cheaper!)
dfinn
Hi Guys, Has anyone got links to more information on these movers, the manufacturers website doesn't have loads of information on it. I am particularly interested in the 150 and 250 versions. Thanks, Daniel
Bad_Rock
Looks like somebody beat me at placing this post. I saw this lights on Frankfurt's Pro light and sound fair and they looked good to me. One thing to be careful about comparing it with the Martin's 250's is that this one's got only one gobo wheel. They didn't look Chinese. They looked a lot more European. I hope quality it's good anyway. Do some of you find it good for it's money? Regards.
dfinn
Hi, Here is the link to the UniLyte SK250 Spot http://www.uni-lyte.com/producthtml/SK-250Spot.htm Here is the link to the GLP http://www.glplighting.com/ The top part of the unit looks similar, but the base doesn't. The Uni Lyte has a base like a Mac 300, the GLP Version is a bit more like a ROBE. Any more information welcome, I have emailed the company (who do view this forum) but haven't had a reply yet. EDIT: Just found them on Newlighting website at very good prices. Thanks, Daniel
Andy_Hook
Hi all, The new European Uni-lyte website will be launched very shortly - keep your eye on www.unilyte.co.uk! It will include full information, photos and video clips of all the fixtures which are being stocked in the UK, as well as details of where you can buy them! There's been a few changes to the technical spec over the past couple of months, hence the lack of information around at the moment. Things should be more public over the next few weeks though, so watch this space! Anyone with questions in the mean time can e-mail sales@unilyte.co.uk, contact Shock Solutions (08456 449430) or get in touch with the guys at Lighting Partners (http://www.lightingpartners.co.uk). Lozza
Dude, all I can say is I would never use anything other thatn a MAC as far as movers go! Do I even have to say why? - Lozza
paulears
Dude, all I can say is I would never use anything other thatn a MAC as far as movers go! Do I even have to say why? - Lozza I am afraid you do - yes. Macs, some of them, are fine pieces of kit, but it's a bit like saying "I'd never drive anythong other than a Range Rover" - these things, at first glance look like filling a hole in the market. We don't know how good they are, but at the price point - I can see many people having a load of these, rather than a couple of Macs. Maybe (only maybe) the macs will still be going in a few years, and maybe these are not tough enough mechanically for the hire market, but so what? Horses for courses. There are also plenty of movers better than macs - so people need an open mind - what spec do you need for the job? then source the correct tool. QUERYJust been looking at the spec and DMX info on the link above - and there doesn't appear to be a dimmer - a serious omission - and one that would stop me buying any
Stu
Dude, all I can say is I would never use anything other thatn a MAC as far as movers go! Do I even have to say why? - LozzaI wouldn't be so keen to discount other products available in the market at such a young age - by your comment you are prepared to overlook moving lights manufactured by other companies of a comparable size to Martin, or bigger, such as High End, Clay Paky, Vari*lite (who invented the moving light back in the early 80s!) etc etc. Interest and being keen is a great thing, but experience is something that takes a lot of time - there a so many other products out there that you need to use them all before making such an opinion (and use them properly too!).... The Mac range have their disadvantages too, the 500 and 600s certainly aren't the best available from Martin these days either! (Still a great workhorse tho) Stu
