Outdoor Plasma Screen Installation

Hello,

For the entrance to one of our venues, we are to install a 50inch outdoor plasma. This is to be used as a marketing tool and run film trailers, show times and up and coming shows, videos etc.

All this to be controlled by a Denon DNV755 audio visual player. (if any one has any experience of using these please let me know what they think?). This in turn is linked to our projector in the atrium and will be playing the same thing.

So sound quality is a issue but, as always so is the budget! I need a set of speakers that are going to create a an impact and loud enough to be heard over traffic noise (we are on the main exit of a bus station).

Now my number 1 choice is the EM acoustics EMS-81 waterproofed and very nice, but this is really going to stretch the budget, so has any one else got any ideas to another IP55 rated (or there about) speakers with a good dynamic range especially in the LF would be very helpful.

The site in which the speakers are to be mounted is in a tunnel with a Concrete ceiling, tiled walls and a painted all weather floor. The Plasma is to ceiling mounted in the centre and the speakers are to be wall mounted.

One final thing, I have been asked to put the infrastructure in to be able then from our live venues to put a live feed straight from the performance space into both the plasma and the projector, we have a number of network points around the building so my thoughts stray towards Ethernet, how easy is this? And what extra equipment will I have to budget for in the future?

There is a lot here I know, but I am now in that stage where budget/time is tight (Your boss tells you nothing about it and then wants it yesterday!) and other options need to be sought.

Thanks in advance

Ben

Have you considered the Bose outdoor jobbies, the 251 being the obvious contender...?

(Dont tell anyone I recommended a Bose product, even though they are quite good speakers, ones street cred can suffer enormously for this crime)

This project is outside the sort of thing I usually do, but I'm curious....

(and I mean genuinely curious, not trying to start a row...)

Typical heavy traffic noise is around 80-85db SPL, and passing diesel vehicles such as buses can hit 90-95 dB SPL at 10 metres. Since your brief is to provide a level to be heard over the traffic, I assume you'll be going for an SPL in the mid to high 90s at least.

Given that, what, if anything, are the planning and noise bye-law implications about setting up an installation like this? Are there any employees (doormen or bouncers for example) who are going to be working in the area and will need hearing protection?

As I say, genuine questions rather than trying to be contentious.

Bob

... Bose outdoor jobbies...

As I have said before, that statement has a completely different meaning in the west of Scotland. Although in this particular case, referring to "Bose jobbies" may have some supporters.....

Sorry

Note from the moderators : this member has deleted/edited several of his posts in a fit of pique. Apologies if it makes the thread harder to follow - we've reinstated what we can, but the newer ones hadn't been cached so there's nothing we can do about them.

Hi

I would definatly recormmend the Bose 251's not just for cost verse's sound quality but they are really hard wearing and have a five year replacement warranty to boot. If you want something you can fit and forget with warranty support they would be hard to beat.

PM if you want some trade prices on them.
