Headlong
Ok - I know it's not a *real* desk but it does it's job of controlling dimmer packs and par cans for the band I play in. However, we are replacing our p56s with equivalent LED fixtures and want to use all 24 faders to control 4 individual fixtures and then 4 pair of fixtures. Is it possible to assign faders 1-24 to the relavent DMX channels for programming purposes to create my patches within the banks, then re-assign them to new DMX patches to use 'on-the-fly' e.g. fader 1 to send DMX R,G & B (creating a white spot at full throw) to fixture 1, fader 2 to do the same thing to fixtures 2 & 3 and fader 3 for fixture 4, or will this corrupt the pre-stored banks/patches? Sorry if this has already been asked and thanks in advance for any responses. Rikwww.headlong.me.uk
ampcats
Note from the moderators : this member has deleted/edited several of his posts in a fit of pique. Apologies if it makes the thread harder to follow - we've reinstated what we can, but the newer ones hadn't been cached so there's nothing we can do about them. Headlong
Thanks for the reply. the cans we've ordered are the Showtec ones from Thomann and from reading the posts in 'LED Par cans' they seem not to have a master channel. We're not interested in stobing/scrolling so only planned to set fader outputs to the RGB DMX channels. I was aware of the limitations for DMX assignments so knew I could just about squeeze the fixtures as 4 individuals and 4 pairs onto the desk, but I was hoping to 'trick' it after programming my patches into setting up some extra fader assignments but it looks like I may have to rethink my plans. If I run with 2 indiviual and 5 pairs of fixtures that should free up 3 faders to assign to the RGB DMX channels of those fixtures that I want to be able to use as spotlights. Time for a better desk perhaps? Thanks again ,and suggestions on the next desk appreciated. Rik
ampcats
Thanks again ,and suggestions on the next desk appreciated. loads of info in the FAQ at the top of the topic - linking to posts spread around here - while budget is often a factor, different desks are better for different tasks, and the medium term use envisaged use should be the deciding factor (if you need to replace it in 2 years, then somebody chose cost as the driving factor) - there are many views on the subject!
