Bobbsy
I've been asked to do an outdoor show in the late summer. At this stage, I'm not sure I can actually do it due to some RL issues but, if I do, I'd be very tempted to spec an M7CL for the job. In terms of functionality it's just what I'd need. However, the mix position will be outdoors and in daylight for at least the first half of each night's performance. Anybody here had a chance to see if the screen on the M7CL is useably bright in daylight conditions? I've been caught out before using screen based technology in daylight, so.... Thanks in advance Bob
BlueShift
I would be using some kind of shade for it - As I remember, the screen is fairly bright - but not amazingly so. In full on daylight you might struggle a little
Bobbsy
I'm sure there will be some form of awning or tent affair, if only due to the unpredictability of UK summer weather. However, even so, ambient light levels in daylight can be pretty bright compared to most screens. I'm accutely aware that I can barely make out my laptop screen on a sunny day in my kitchen (a room with south facing windows). That's perhaps why I'm curious to see if anybody has used an M7CL in daylight conditions. Bob
mackerr
Here is a thread at PSW that deals with that exact question. The person who resorted to a cardboard box to shade the screen was outdoors in a snow field, so the glare was very intense. Mac
Dan Appleby
Anybody here had a chance to see if the screen on the M7CL is useably bright in daylight conditions? PM Mark Payne about this, I'm sure he'll be able to help you out :)
lifeisacabaret
How about getting a gazebo- theyre relatively cheap nowadays and probably just the right size for a mix position.
Bobbsy
Thanks to mackerr...that PSW thread was useful and likely gave me the answer I need. As for gazebos etc, as I said earlier, there will be some form of tent/shelter provided but not arranged by me (the FOH position is combined with lights up a short scaff tower....I just have to turn up and rig the sound stuff). However, even with a general shade, the ambient light is MUCH brighter than a typical room or theatre. As I say, it's bad experiences with laptops outdoors that got me paranoid. Sounds like cardboard and matt black paint are the order of the day. Now, if I can just sort things out to be able to take the job! Bob
ashleydyer
hi I recently had the chance to demo the m7cl with the company I work for. its a great desk and such an easy digital desk to get around. we used the m7 in traff square london and it was very usable even in the open air and day light, it was designed after yamaha evaluated all other digi desks and filled the m7 with the bits the others were missing. you shouldnt have any problems. ash
BenWall
Bobbsy, I was at an outdoor show today, they were using an M7CL for their FoH PA... I spoke to the engineer and he said he found it fine in daylight, although as stated before it was in a tent (which was wobbling around a bit considering the wind!). HTH, Ben. Scouse Dave
Maybe a variant on THIS could help with being able to see the screen. That may cause some other issues though. Such as being able to hear... Dave M
