Iain C
Hi, I am requring graphics for an upcoming event. A character generator is not going to be used, therefore graphics will be put onto a DVD and played back. When I play the graphics back the graphics flicker. Is there a way in which I can reduce the flickering or make it go completely? The graphics are JPEGs and the DVD player plays them as a slide show. Kind regards, Iain. Tomo
We need more info here! Let's start with the easy question:How were they put on a DVD?
Iain C
Hi, Tomo, Apart from how I put them on the DVD, there is no more information that I can give to you. I put them on using Window's 'Copy to CD' function. The DVD player then recognises this and plays the DVD back using a slide show feature, which is ideal for the event, but not ideal that there is a flicker. The flicker is okay on single graphics, but when I have multiple boxes on screen, which cameras will be keyed into the boxes, all of the white lines around the boxes flicker, which can look irritating, especially on the actual broadcast, in my opinion. Thank you again. Kind regards, Iain.
marky
Have you tried it on any other machines? What DVD player is it?
Iain C
Hi, Marky, I have tried it on two machines, one Panasonic and the other being a Philips. The company cannot afford any more charges, hence why there is going to be no character generator. I tried a VGA to composite adapter, but the quality is poor and I have tried many products of a similar type. It is then that I thought that running the graphics through a DVD player would be ideal, as I can select the graphic before putting it on air with ease. Is there a product (which is relatively cheap) that will allow me to take the output of the computer which is of an high quality? I then can display all of the graphics in a full-screen mode using a computer. It is imperative that the product is of a high quality, though, which, in all fairness, I got with the DVD player, but the flicker is too much of a problem. Kind regards, Iain. Brian
How wide are your lines? If you are working with lines at around 1 or 2 pixels wide you may be seeing either interpolation errors - caused when the image is converted from PC resolution to TV resolution; or field flicker where a line only appears on one TV field (this only affects horizontal lines). Try making the lines wider and soft-edged (anti-aliased).
beware
Have you tried playing with the projector settings? or another projector...
JCoster
Or assuming that you are projecting, then why not just run the show straight from the PC using PowerPoint and VGA-VGA?
Iain C
Hi, I am going to try Brian's technique and make the lines wider. I am not using a projector. The output of the computer will be fed into the production switcher. Thank you for all of your replies. Kind regard, Iain.
ampcats
how about reducing your output screen size to 800 by 600 - that is roughly TV size.... then, a VGA composite adapter might give you a higher quality output..
Iain C
Hi, ampcats, I will try that and thank you for your reply. Kind regards, Iain.
ampcats
if you are using PowerPoint, in addition, make sure to set the output resolution (tools > set up show) to 800 / 600 or it may resize it automatically to 1024 or larger when you enter show mode. (this option varies between versions, but you get my drift...)
SeanT
Can you not use a graphics card with a composite output or a decent scan converter? 30 quid to buy a suitable graphics card or 30 quid a day to hire a very good scan converter...
