mackerr
about to use one :) for the first time on sunday wanted to know if any body has used one? and if there is any advice?Downlod the manual from Yamaha, and if you use a Windows computer, download the Studio Manager environment, and M7CL Editor as well. In its default patch it is pretty straight forward, but there is no reason not to be prepared when Yamaha supplies all that information online for free. Bobbsy
Completely agree with Mackerr's suggestion...all the info is there. If you've used a Yamaha digital mixer before, you should have no trouble finding your way around this one. The only "oops" I found involved the use of delays. Unlike pretty well every other Yamaha mixer, the M7CL does NOT have them available on every input/output. They are only present on outputs, and are specific to each output, not software patchable. Rob_Beech
very nice desk to use, extremely flexible and very straight forward.Good advice given, I'd also suggest geting in touch with Mark Payne (he'll probably be along at some point) as he does training on the M7CL down in Reading. (all depends on where abouts you are I suppose). I'd highly recommend this training (and the others Mark does) to anyone, a fantastic day where you get to know the board, and get to know how it is used in a live scenario. Much more than a manual can tell you. Rob

With digital consoles it may help to think of it as a bunch of input and output ports (or connectors), and a bunch of control channels. I/O ports may or may not actually be associated with the control channel of the same number. On most digital consoles the delay is associated with a contol channel, be it input or output. On the M7 series the delay is associated with the output port. This may be handy if for instance you have a single matrix feeding a number of delay zones that have different delay times. You would softpatch the matrix to a number of output ports, and set the delay times there. It is not so handy if you have an upstage band in a theater show and need to have both a delayed and non delayed mix to route to various matrix outs to keep the onstage band system in time with the rest of the PA. Also not handy if you need to delay video feeds to get them back in sync after the video has passed through digital processing. Mac
smidge
My first experience with a digital desk was with this one. I found it confusing at first, there being three ways to do everything, but after a day operating and referencing the manual, you soon discover how to do the most common features such as creating mute groups (requires only 2 pages of the display) and adding channels to the mixes (aux). My first experience was also with Mark in Reading, where I basically had a brief overview of the desk. Combining even the very brief knowledge with actually trying to use the desk, I soon understood how the console was implemented. A day on a training course would be well spent. I can't give a valid opinion of this desk as I haven't used other digital desks yet, but I can say that it's made me not scared to make the move to digital as the convenience of less outboard processing was great and that FoH setup was much faster (although extra time had to be spent getting familiar with the desk). Tree Tordoff
about to use one ;) for the first time on sunday wanted to know if any body has used one? and if there is any advice? The manual is the ultimate reference but there is a quick start guide to read at http://www.yamahaproaudio.com/downloads/index.html and look in the M7CL section. I really recommend it. I wrote it! Remember; push a rotary for single channel view and a navigation key for eight channel view. After that just go crazy touching the screen till you find everything!
