Ynot
Just to play devil's advocate here, why should the hire company hold and pay for the licence ?For the Channel 69 shared frequencies which most rented mics are on, it's an annual licence at about £75 a year or £145 for 2 years. Since most people hiring only want a week or two, it makes far more sense for the hire company to pay once and split the cost over all the annual rentals.Beat me to it!That's PRECISELY the reason, and as I said above, the hire compnay likely figures a small percentage of thelicence fee into the overall hire charge - even if it's only a fiver each they make a decent whack if the mics go out for more than 15 weeks a year. And the users ARE licensed as long as the forms are properly filled in - and those forms don't even have to GO anywhere - as long as the user has them certifying permission from the owner they're covered. Oh - and my 2- year licence would indeed have been £145, BUT I got a £10 on-line credit-card discount when I renewed last month! Tony
David
From the JFMG web site "Usually it is the user of the equipment who must hold the licence. There are only two exceptions. Licence exempt equipment. This includes some radio microphones and some video equipment. Details can be found in the Equipment section of our website, and full details of all licence exempt equipment is available from Ofcom. Shared radio microphones Any licensee of shared radio mics may hire or loan equipment to their customers. Providing the licensee supplies the customer with a written permit, the customer may use the equipment under the licence issued to the hirer. JFMG provides such a permit to all licensees who have paid the appropriate fee." The last time I used 14 channels from the shared licence list I had intermod problems, Spoke to Sennheiser who told me that to use 14 units I would hace to use coordinated frequencies, they gave me a list of intermod free frequencies , from which JFMG issued a licence (48 hour),
randomtom
...snip... Does anyone else think £36 per mic per 48hr's is unreasonable? Tom (will have to wait until next week now, getting married today!!!)
andy_s
Just to play devil's advocate here, why should the hire company hold and pay for the licence ? After all, from a legal standpoint, its the user that has to be licenced. regardless of the legalities, because the supplier is offering a service, and the better and more inclusive the service is, the more people will want to use it. nothing personal, but to me the "here's the kit, sort it out yourself" version smacks of easyjet or dare I say it ryan air. Bobbsy
The last time I used 14 channels from the shared licence list I had intermod problems, Spoke to Sennheiser who told me that to use 14 units I would hace to use coordinated frequencies, they gave me a list of intermod free frequencies , from which JFMG issued a licence (48 hour), My experience exactly, except (if I recall correctly) they used as many shared frequencies as possible (think it was 8 with Sennheiser) to minimise the amount I had to pay for coordinated freqs. This, alas, seems to be the problem these days. Since their future is limited, JFMG have lost some/most of their good staff and those remaining (if they pick up the phone at all) don't seem to be willing to put themselves out to help at all. Sad to see since I used to be a big fan of JFMG and the way they'd help. Bob
