tr7ster
Hi all, Just a brief question - what do you guys + gals use for general bgm? I've got a corporate (newspaper company folk, MPs) gig in a couple of days, and they want music while folk are finding their seats, milling around etc. My normal gig is medical conferences, and none of them have yet to request it background music. My initial thoughts were just something easy and inoffensive - Miles Davis, Moby's play etc, but thought they may be a wee bit cliche.Any ideas or opinions greatly received! Ben Mods - if this would be better in the Sound section, please move at will...
mac.calder
I think I have seen this type of thread before, but anyway: I try to use royalty free stuff if I can and theme it to the event and the demographic it attracts. Not always possible though. I don't really do corp stuff often, but thinking about it, if asked to provide "walk in music", I would go for something light, maybe not too modern - 70's/80's is usually a fairly safe bet. If it is a formal event like an awards presentation ceremony, I would say instrumental as a general rule. I have a CD called "Freedom" - it is really uplifting and fairly lively orchestral music - I also have a solo violinist which has some popular older tunes, just with a solo violin, I rescued it from the $1 bin at a music shop. beware
I play either a Paul Weller album or Dire Straights... but that's just me. It really depends on the theme of the gig.
3guk
For me, its usually Enya or something along the likes of, as its very un-obtrusive.
eviljohn2
See if you can find a Hifi Magazine with a free test disc. The most unobtrusive background music ever. :)
bruce
Make sure you either use royalty-free material, or pay the appropriate charges in advance. Especially if there are politicians and press there.
Guest lightnix
Assuming you've done that, my favourite walk in is Thursday Afternoon by Brian Eno, an hour of gentle, unbroken ambient "pling"; very atmospheric, good for building a sense of anticipation. Track 1 of Music For Airports is quite nice, too.
