stuartglen
After reading through the topics on colour scrollers on this forum I have been left with two questions. First, is it possible to mex and match psu's and scrollers, eg use a chroma q scroller with a rainbow psu? Second, why do psu's have multiple 4 pin XLR ouputs? If each scroller has the DMX circuitry built in to the scroller and multiple scrollers can be daisy chaind but still be on different channels why are multiple XLR outputs needed? zonino
don't know about mix and match, I'd assume not reason for multiple outputs, in no particular order: 1. redunancy, if one of them goes, you can swap to another2. easier problem solving, if nothing works in the whole rig, its alot harder to find that nothing on scroller line 3 working!3. I seem to remember there is a 60m(?) limit on total scroller circuit length, if you only ran one circuit most circuits would exceed this length! Dingo19
Multiple 4pin outputs are handy if your psu is located central to your scroller (or other device) spread. Plus it allows you to centrally locate each psu and keep yourself below the max head feet range of the psu.
Rowan
The majority of psu's can be mixed, certainly chroma-q and Rainbow can. The psu in these systems puts power down two lines, and DMX down the other two. You can also use them for pirouettes I believe I was always told that the reason for multiple outlets is that you can only power so many scrollers off each one before the current gets too great. the wybron system is slightly cleverer than the rainbow/chroma's it tells you how many scrollers are connected, and other diagnostics, which prove very usefull when you are hanging from a fly-floor trying to find why they aren't working
Nick S
Rosco certainly make a power supply that works with both their various accesories (I-Cues, etc), the Chroma Qs and Rainbows, but annoying not the CX1s...
stuartglen
thanks for the info, I have another question on the psu front, what is the difference between these two psu units? http://usedlighting.co.uk/ULE50087.jpg http://usedlighting.co.uk/ULE50036.jpg
Tomo
The difference is the available output power / head-feet. Although I can't remember off-hand which has more.
WiLL
On a similar note, anybody ever use the Apollo range of scrollers, Smart Colours? Just looking for a bit of feedback of wether or not they are worth buying. Thanks.
stuartglen
anyone know the difference between the two psu's?
Stu
Tomo has given you an answer a few posts up... One thing I can add is the 2nd PSU you show in your post is fed by a seperate transformer to convert down to 24v DC, hence the short link which plugs from the transformer into the distro box.
