dfinn
Hi, I recently tried to connect my laptop up to an ultradrive pro using a standard network patch cable using the Rs 485 I think connection on the back of the unit and my newtwork RJ45 port on the laptop. However when trying to connect through the software I get an error saying the COM port is in loop mode and cannot connect, this happened on two laptops, what is this and how cab I solve it? Thanks, Daniel

back_ache
You've tried to stick a square peg in a round hole. The socket on the back of you PC is ethernet and the only thing it has in common with the RS485 on the back of you gadget is the type of socket it uses. If you have a serial port on your laptop use a cable between it and the RS232 port on your gadget. If not, get a usb to serial adapter and do the same I would suggest using a terminal server so you can connect the gadget straight to your network but they can be tricky to set up. Good luck.
