Hi All

Was just wondering if anyone has any technical spec (lighting, pa, rigging & video) for the current Take That Tour. Ive heard alot about it, but nothing in detail.

Cheers

I've done a couple of ins & outs as a local rigger.

Its a monster. There's lots of kit, travelling on 15 trucks.

Rigging is being supplied by Summit Steel, which includes a Kinesis K2 motion control system running lots of CM Lodestars. I guess there are about 80 odd points in the venue roof (about 20 of which are 2-ton), and quite a few sub-hangs besides.

Besides the rather large rig over the (rolling) stage, there's a flown B stage which lands, pleasingly I thought, on top of the FoH control position. The B stage has its own PA system and lighting rig, flown from a mother grid. Amps/dimmers etc., for the B stage are also flown on a tech platform adjacent to the mother grid. The B stage is accessed from the main stage via a flown catwalk.

Most remarkable on the main stage, from a rigging point of view is the "halo" - a horseshoe shaped truss which incorporates a catwalk. Throughout most of the show it sits at about a 45degree angle, but it also drops to a horizontal position (which involves some rather sophisticated motion control on a bunch of loadstars and a couple of pretty solid pivots integral to the stage). Once in the horizontal position, the cast get up on top, via the two large spiral staircases, also integral to the stage.

Theres lots of pyro (can't be specific here, its all just stuff that goes "boom, whoosh" and makes the roof smell bad for the load-out to me). Theres also lots of water - in a "Singing in the Rain" stylee - various systems mounted on the underside of the "halo". There's some rather nicely coreographed business with umbrellas and a very nice effect where the 'virtual' Robbie Williams is back projected onto a sheet of 'rain'.

There are also some rather tired touring crew, and one or two stiff backs among the local crews come to that.

For the moment, you can see a snapshot from the last Sheffield load-in here. Bear in mind that this was a show playing for 1 night only, which had come in directly from a load-out in Glasgow the previous night. Hard graft.

Wow

Thanks for the info. Must be an impressive rig to see once setup.

Alot of hardwork for a get-in and get-out on the same day.

I wonder how much tonnes in weight hangs?

is there any plans to record the show for DVD release? that looks to be one impressive rig, and I am sure many will want to see it for that reason... also I am pretty certain Total Production or LSi will cover this very soon... well we hope anyway

I believe they retained most of the crew from the last take that tour

I don't know the lampies well (apart from a few familiar faces), but I hope for their sake this isn't true. The last tour was 10 years ago, the tour schedule is brutally punishing as it is, how much more demoralising to be breaking your back doing the same gig you were doing 10 years back!

Yes, its going to be filmed in Manchester next week. (Which means the show will be even bigger - there'll be an extra lx rig going in to light the audience.)

Sx.

Thanks for the photos,

I have had positive feedback of a couple of friends, they say the show is amazing and it was well worth the money.

Would loved to have gone and had a nose :D

  • 4 weeks later...

I went to the stadium gig yesterday... it was amazing!! Was quite far back (seated) but it was still an amazing atmosphere, and I liked being able to see the whole look of the show... Some of the highlights for me: their entrance thru the video wall, the water, the hologram, the fire (and lulu ** laughs out loud **), the truss moving to create a walkway and the tt sign truss moving..

Took some pics... obviously not close at all, but gives an idea of the look... I'll put some more up if anyones interested but have only edited a few so far.. the last 2 are screen grabs off a vid so thats why the quality isnt as good.

Cheers,

J
