mwp
Hi, I'm thinking about buying a pioneer video wall. Does anyone know anything about them? Any help or information would be greatly appreciated.
James S
Would these be the ones currently listed on ebay by any chance?

James S
Nice but I'm unsure. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...me=STRK:MEWA:IT for those who havent seen You've got to think "Why are they on ebay?" and "Why is there no reserve?" - These things would cost a fortune new/ origionally and its quite a risk to list them on ebay like this. The listing says that a lens is missing which would suggest a problem and his solution sounds rather like a bodge. The pics show a lighter square in the centre of each screen - I dont know if these are just a reflection but could be a problem with them. I would go and take a look to see them working if I had the time/ space etc. That way you know exactly whats what. They are gonna be very heavy too from the look of the pix. A few months ago there was a similar type of wall (not the same one) that went for only a few hundred and ended up back on shortly after.
paulears
The reason they are going cheap is that:A: they are big and heavy and a pain to transportB: OldC: fiddly to alignD: an awful lot of bother to go through when many modern projectors are brighter and take up much less space. One of the colleges I visit each year has stacks of them - and as far as I'm aware, rarely even plug 'em in!
mwp
Is it possible with the set-up shown on ebay to wire up a dvd player / pc and automatically split the output between the screens, or would I have to purchase extra hardware to do this? Also, do these screens have any internal speakers or would the audio output have to be done separately? Again, any help or advice with these wold be greatly appreciated. Many thanks. Pete McCrea
No internal speakers. You'd need some sort of controller to do the split into each unit. It does come with a laserpoint controller which might well do that. Personally I'd stay well clear. Unless I had a specific use for them and had seen them working. ampcats
I used one set up as a 9 cube (3*3) controller a few years back - video only - NTSC & PAL, no sound processing. the control box supported up to 18 cards if I remember - presumeably for 16:9 run through a 6*3 matrix with top / bottom border (?) - didn't mess with controls though - just plugged in a signal cable and went 'ooh'
James S
Did anyone end up wining or bidding on it?

Toxopholist
I used to be,or rather am still but only rarely a toshiba cube wall engineer, and they are a very similar technology as the pioneer system althought they were regarded as easier to set up, and if I tell you that the last wall I did was earlier this year and it takes somewhere in the region of 1 hour to set up a 3x3 wall and then a further 2, if you are quick, to line them up. I assume the lazer point controller is the processor which will handle the splitting up of the image there will be no sound inboard, except for the noise of typically 2 fans per screen. The fresnel lense mentioned is the inner of the 2 front surfaces of the cube which is like the fresnel lense on an OHP and basically spreads the light more evenly accross the screen. I guess it would be possible to cut one down from a larger screen, but it is fragile stuff and you wouldnt catch me trying.... hope this help
