Strand Cantata Spares and parts lists

Hi -

Having been a 'lurker' on the board for a couple of months, I've just registered as I need help with a couple of things (including fixing a Strand Mini-2 dimmer pack - see my other post). I've found the board very helpful to look at so far, so am hoping for some more help! :(

Having just acquired 8 well-used Cantata 26/44 and 18/32 profiles for a church lighting project (hence on a tight budget :) ), I need some help on spares. I'm missing the following items:-

1) 1 shutter blade

2) the cable socket retaining clip (6 needed)

3) the bakelite handle on the back plate of the lamp housing (5 required, plus screws)

4) the gate lock assembly (knob/screwed rod & nut) (5 required)

An explode view/spare parts list on its own would be a help for these (I can find a Cadenza parts list on the web, but not the one for a Cantata)

Any assistance gratefully received!

Chris

Whilst we're on the topic, I remember someone mentioning in a thread some time ago that these lamps could be turned from bog standard profiles into followspots with the addition of a few parts. Anyone out there know the parts required? And a decent source for them?

Cheers!

Hey there Chris

Sadly Strand are notorious for long lead times on spare parts but worse still, they do not keep stock spares on disscontinued products (on a rare occasion they may have one lying about). Some of the parts you need will still be availiable as the Cantatta Fres' is still in production and certain components are interchangable, but dont expect to get them without a wait.

If you can pick up any more second hand units, it might be in your interest to reserve a few of the less presentable ones for spares.

Alternatively try a local hire co' as they may have the odd de-commissioned unit from which you could salvage some parts.

Best of luck. (you will most likely need it)

I used to use the 'mega' size paper clips and re-bend them to make up the cable socket retaining clips... IIRC, the plugs with the cable entry on the side (90 degree) just cleared the bracket, so did not have to be removed often.

as far as followspot was concerned, the 5 (or was it 6) colour frame just slotted in the front where a single gel frame would go, the iris was bolted in in place of the shutter assembly (but again, iirc, there was still a slot for an A size gobo holder - I recall using it for DHA motorised fx wheels when not used as a F/S), and there was a U shaped handle with an extended 'leg' that fitted into the machined channels on the side. still only 1200W, but for the theatre it was in running nothing brighter than a 650 watt minuette profile, it was fine.... there were discharge kits available, but in '95 they were very pricey...
